(cw: child death)
Hello Deathlings!
We have a new article for you on the Order site, one that I suspect will resonate with many of you.
This week's guest writer, Daniel Pietersen, takes a deeper look at a death in his own backyard, and poses important questions about our fear of death and community responsibility.
Known to God: Mourning an Unnamed Child
We often prefer to look back on death as something inevitable to be mourned rather than confront the responsibilities we have as a community to prevent death, at least when it is preventable. In fact, is it really death that we recoil from or is it rather the process of dying?
Death and culture is a frequent subject of Daniel's writing, as seen here in his piece about the Painted Skulls of Hallstatt. He lives in Edinburgh, Scotland, with his wife, who is the Human Remains Conservator at the Surgeons' Hall Museums, and a dog.
And this Saturday, we have a bonus Patron-only video for you, keep your eyeballs peeled for that. Hopefully that will tide you over until our November videos. Just WAIT until you see what I've gotten myself into for that one!
Happy October deathlings. Hope you find a little "compassion and thoughtfulness in the world."
