The Vampire Diaries 4X12: A View to a Kill

I absolutely did not think we were actually going to kill Kol. That said, I had no idea how we were ever going to get Damon out of basement jail without doing so, but I figured they'd find some magical Bonnie way of doing it. But instead, we actually have a dead Kol.

So, even though most of this episode is all set up to kill Kol, I'm still surprised. Elena has decided (I feel like someone maybe mentioned it in the previous episode though) that the best way to finish Jeremy's hunter mark and find the cure, is for him to kill Kol. Then, his entire bloodline dies which has to be thousands of vampires. Plus, he's got the added benefit of not having to kill innocent people.

Unfortunately, the only way to kill Kol is with the white ash stake, which is currently possessed by Kol. (Although why he'd carry it around with him is beyond me). Either way, Elena calls him over under the pretense of wanting to discuss a truce. But, they plan for Jeremy and Bonnie to show up so Jeremy can kill him. However, Bonnie is stuck at her house since her parents think she's all black magicked up and they are holding her there against her will. Elena can't stall Kol any longer and he leaves.

As soon as he leaves, Jeremy comes back. And so does Kol, claiming he thought about the truce and decided no. And now he's got unfettered access to the house, so he just charges in with the plan to cut off Jeremy's arm. But, just as he's about to do so, Elena attacks him and distracts him long enough for Jeremy to get free. They hit him with some water (we've got vervain back in the water supply) which burns him and allows Jeremy to grab the white oak stake out of his pocket and kill him with it.

It just so happens that Klaus happens to be at the front door watching this. And good god is he pissed. He can't actually get in, but he plans to burn the house down and then kill them when they try to flee. Thankfully, just then, Bonnie shows up and incapacitates him with some witch pain and then locks him in an invisible cell in the living room.

Around this time, Jeremy's mark start to complete itself, and everyone else can see it too. Bonnie tells them that they've got about 3 days to find the cure, because that's how long the spell will keep Klaus locked up. It feels like we have no option but to kill Klaus out this point, because he 100% will kill us if we don't. But I also know this show has a spin off (that I'm not sure Klaus is on, but I feel like he would be), so I don't know how that is going to work itself out.

Oh, and during all this chaos, Stefan has been 'on a date with Rebekah.' Really, he's just trying to figure out where the dagger is, so he can 'kill' her with it. But, it turns out that she wants the cure too because she really wants to be human. Since she's on our side (which I'm not sure she really is- she has such a love/hate relationship with Klaus), Stefan decides not to dagger her.

And Damon is still locked up, but now that Kol is dead, his compulsion is broken and I imagine that he'll be free by next episode. Fingers crossed.
