Hart of Dixie 1X3: Gumbo & Glory

This show continues to be heartwarming and cozy. And of course poor Zoe would get bitten by the snake herself.

So, it's the annual gumbo cooking competition, and Zoe has decided that she's going to enter and win so the people will love her. Yeah, they still aren't all that keen on her. But, at least she seems to have a few friends. The mayor and Wade both really like her, and so does George, despite Butter Bitch's many protests. But, she's determined to win over the town. I love the spirit.

Unfortunately, her plan to 'make' gumbo, consisted of have Emeril Lagasse whip her up some and ship it over. Which might have been fine, but Burt Reynolds finds it out on the porch and eats it (the alligator, remember?). So, now we've got to adapt and make our own gumbo.

But, before she can do that, she actually gets a patient! I mean, only because Brick isn't there, but still. Turns out, a kid had been bitten by a snake, but since Zoe doesn't know much about snakes, she has to go hunt it down to see if it's venomous or not. Turns out, it is, and she gets just as bitten as the kid did.

After Brick heals her up, she heads to the store to buy gumbo ingredients, and she finds out that shrimp don't come peeled and deveined. The owner sends her out back with a knife. She tries. She really does, but she's only got one hand and has never done this before. George wanders by and takes pity on her. He brings her to a farmer's market to gather ingredients.

However, as soon as they are finished, someone runs over and shouts for someone to call an ambulance. Zoe rushes over and finds a farmer whose equipment has collapsed on him. She knows there is zero chance of him making it if they lift the piece off. Immediate surgery is needed on site, but she's only got one working hand. And, loathe as they are to do so, they call Brick, who has no idea how to do this surgery. Zoe talks him through it, and it all goes just fine.

Expect, the town is running around claiming that Brick is a hero and no one is talking about how Zoe was the only one who actually knew what to do. As much as she wants to confront him, she swallows it down and on the advice of the mayor, just goes ahead with the gumbo contest. But her gumbo is so bad that she can't even enter it.

At the competition, she somehow wins second place (she's bewildered since she didn't even enter) and she uses that opportunity to congratulate Brick. Telling him she looks forward to him teaching her how to get better at both gumbo and being a doctor in the future.

And lo and behold, the next day at the office, Brick sends some patients her way. Fingers crossed we're making baby steps towards progress.

Oh, and Wade ended up making the gumbo (the amount of times I've typed chili and had to replace it with gumbo in this description is astounding) and putting her name on it. Romantic gestures and all that. Not that Zoe knows this, she assumed the mayor did it.

One more thing: Butter Bitch is even bitchier than we first thought. Not only does she not what her finance interacting with Zoe at all, she doesn't want the receptionist interacting with her ex (the mayor) at all. So much so that she gets her a job elsewhere so they're apart! WTF BB. Thankfully, George ends up giving her a job for the same pay so she can stay (BB is not pleased), but know we need another new receptionist. Do we think this is gonna be a thing where we get a new receptionist every episode? I don't think so, but it could be fun!
