The Vampire Diaries 4X9: O Come, All Ye Faithful

Ugh. So much of this episode was good. But so much not so great stuff happened too (not that it was bad for the story, but bad for our characters. Lol.) Also, I cannot be the only person who forgot that Jeremy gave April a vervain bracelet, can I?

So, Elena and Damon are in this weird place. She swears she knows how she feels for him, but he claims they can never be sure because of the sire bond. He knows he should release her from it, but having her is just making him too damn happy. But, they need to head up to the lake house so we can help Jeremy stop trying to kill vampires he actually likes.

When they get up there, Jeremy (who had no idea they were coming), immediately goes to want to attack them. Bonnie gets him inside and, with the help of Shane (who Damon is rightly concerned about being there), get to work trying to hypnotize Jeremy out of a thought process that just goes: vampire, kill. It takes some doing, but by the end of the trip he seems to have it. He and Elena are able to embrace and he doesn't try to kill her. So, I'll take it as ample progress.

Shane also tells us that he knows where the cure is. We don't need the sword to decipher where it is, but we do need Jeremy's mark to finish because that's the spell that opens the tomb. Allegedly.

Before they leave the lake house, Damon who had been watching Elena be so normal again with Jeremy, decides it's time to break the bond. You can see how much neither of them want that, and I've very curious to see where their relationship goes from here.

Back in Mystic Falls, shit is hitting the fan. Tyler and the hybrids have decided that tonight is the night that they are going to take down Klaus. Stefan begs Tyler to give him a little more time. He needs to find the sword so they can translate the map to find the cure (he doesn't know yet that Shane knows the location). Klaus is the only one who knows where it is. But, Tyler refuses.

Haley sends the hybrids to the woods where the witch will be waiting to help with Klaus. But, it turns out, there never was any witch. And Haley just set up all the hybrids to be slaughtered so Shane can get his twelve sacrifices. Klaus finds out about the breaking of the bond and he's enraged and kills all the hybrids with the exception of Tyler, who he can't find. (Somewhere around this time, Damon tells Stefan that they don't need the sword anymore, but it doesn't really matter. Everything is a hot mess by now).

Klaus (who's a bloody fucking mess) is running around trying to find Tyler, but runs into his mom instead. She begs him not to kill Tyler, so he decides to kill her instead. He ends up drowning her in the fountain. I don't know for sure that she's dead, but she certainly seemed so.

At some point, much earlier, Haley overheard Caroline's conversation with Stefan about how they don't need the sword anymore (they have a plan to imprison Klaus in Rebekah's body and encase it in cement) and snaps her neck so she can take care of the problem without Caroline getting in the way. A few minutes later, April finds an unconscious Caroline in the bathroom and she's begging for help. But, Caroline wakes up and compels her to forget everything she just saw. April agrees and walks out, but then Matt tells Caroline that she's wearing vervain. So, that's gonna be an issue. Especially after April just heads right over to Rebekah's casket.

And finally, Caroline tells Stefan that Damon and Elena have been together all day at the lake house. She also tells him the bond is not broken (as far as she knows, it's the truth, she has no idea that Damon broke it before he sent her home). Stefan is livid. I mean super pissed. Even Caroline jumps a bit while he throws things around. I was 100% sure the two of them were going to end up having sex at the end of this episode. Whether or not that ends up happening, I'd would like Stefan and Caroline together. I think they are a better match them him and Elena.
