The Vampire Diaries 4X6: We All Go a Little Mad Sometimes

So, it turns out, Elena is not the first person we know to deal with this hallucinations after killing a hunter. Klaus went through something similar himself. However, he didn't have as much knowledge as we do (there seems to be a first for everything). Apparently, he had to deal with the torment of trying to kill himself for over 50 years. And one day, it just went away.

We know now, that that means a new hunter was revealed (?) and killed his first vampire. But apparently, Klaus had to wait half a century for that to happen. Elena, meanwhile, only needed to wait a day or so because Damon and Bonnie got the information from the professor (whose motives are not clean, but he's definitely not pro vampire).

Damon knows that the potential new hunter is Jeremy, so he sets up a situation in which Jeremy can kill a hybrid, making Elena's hallucinations stop.

However, before we get to all that, Stefan orchestrated a situation where he tried to get Elena out of the room that Klaus locked her in (for her own protection). While she was in there she was being tormenting by both Owen and Katherine trying to convince her to kill herself. When Stefan came in, she thought he was Owen, freaked out, stabbed him, and ran away.

Caroline, who's at the bar with Klaus trying to distract him while Stefan gets to Elena, gets to be the one to inform him of this situation. I loved this scene so much. I love Caroline so much. Anyway, Klaus heads back to the mansion (is that what we're calling his place?) to yell at his hybrid for not keeping better track of Elena, when Stefan and Jeremy come in and kill him, which stops the torment of Elena.

You know, Elena, who has found her way to the bridge and is now being persuaded to kill herself by her mom. Dude. I don't know if I could have dealt with this. At one point, her mom does convince her and Elena throws her ring into the water and just waits there for sunrise. But then Damon shows up and tells her they have a cure. However, the sun is coming up and Elena starts burning. Damon grabs her and pulls them both into the water. He fishes out her ring and brings her home.

The next day, Elena tells him she's fine and thanks him for saving her. She grabs his hand and looks at him really intensely. And it seems like they both are in the moment together. But then Damon tells her that he's going to be the bigger person and tells her the truth. That Stefan was lying to her, but it was all to protect her (as per usual).

But, that doesn't stop Elena and Stefan from breaking up anyway. She explains to him that she feels differently about Damon now that she did when she was human. She didn't want it to happen, but she can't help it. He tells her he can't do this anymore either. And I think they've decided that they're breaking up.

Please show. Give me Elena and Damon. I ask so little of you. (Lies, Dana. You want all the things).
