Outlander 7X11: A Hundredweight of Stones

I am shocked. I never, in a million years, thought that we would get Jamie back this quickly. I thought we'd find out he was alive at the end of this episode, but then it would take most of the rest of the season to get the two back together.

So we start with Claire marrying John. She's hardly able to make it through the ceremony, but she finally gets the words out. Afterwards, she goes back to her room, and is just inconsolable. She's screaming this guttural screams of anguish. She tries to kill herself, but then remembers Jamie talking about how he couldn't handle it if she died. So, she just guzzles booze. It's horrific to watch.

Downstairs, we see John drinking plenty of his own. His mourning is quieter. He's sitting in front of a chess set, imagining, I assume that he and Jamie will never play again. Eventually, he can't seem to take Claire's screaming anymore and heads upstairs, telling her, he refuses to mourn alone anymore. She's tells him Jamie is not his to mourn, but they are both so hurt and angry that they end up sleeping together. Odd. But I supposed release and comfort, is still release and comfort.

Later, we see that John's nephew intends to marry Mercy and not go back home. However, John forbids it. When he and Claire leaves, she's surprised that he would be against this marriage simply because Mercy is not white. But it seems to be more that he knows what it's like to be in an unconventional relationship, and it's not a life he wants for his nephew.

John ends up hosting a fundraiser of sorts for the Loyalists. Claire at first refuses to go, but later comes down. She ends up dancing with the soldier who came to arrest her, and it turns out, he's a spy too. He is working for the rebels, and wants Claire's help to spy on John and his brother. Claire refuses, but promises to keep his secret.

The next day, Claire is forlornly looking into the fire when John shows up telling her she's got to choose some social engagements for them to attend. Just to keep up appearances. And then, there's a bunch of shouting and banging, and who barges into the door, but our Jamie, alive and completely fine.

He and Claire lunge at each other, while poor John looks very uncomfortable standing in the corner. Eventually, he breaks them apart telling them that William will be here soon. But William is there now. And the truth finally comes out. William is not happy. And wants nothing to do with Jamie. But there is no time to deal with that now. Because, soldiers are after Jamie. Of course they are. And Claire looks so amused by this. As her husband is running away from the law, it's like her life makes sense again.

Sure, we've got to deal with her being married to (and sleeping with) Lord John, but Jamie is back. He never managed to make it onto the ship (only his luggage did) and that's all that really matters right now.

Meanwhile, we find out that Cameron never actually took Jemmy through the stones. It was all a ruse to get rid of Roger and Buck. So now, he's got Brianna and Jemmy to himself and can force them to help him find the gold. But, Brianna goes ahead and just knocks him out with a giant bowl. So maybe this will all be fine.

And it seems like despite everything stacked against them (things that would probably not be an issue in 2025), Ian and Rachel seem like they are going to figure out how to make this work. I don't know if I love this relationship, but the two of them play this so sweetly, I can 100% get on board.

Plus. I still don't care about Roger's dad and why we need to find him. Although, I will admit, I'm kind of curious about why they ended up in the time they did. There was no Jemmy to go after, so what else was Roger thinking about?
