High School Musical: The Musical: The Series 1X9: Opening Night

Dude. I was so not happy when we found out Gina wasn't gonna make it. I was so sure she was gonna figure out how to stay (I'm sure she can stay with one of these kids, right?) and then they just told us she already left? No, thank you. Luckily, she does manage to turn up eventually.

So, on opening night, Miss Jenn texts Kourtney to fill in for Gina. She and Nini are super excited, but Kourtney is also scared. She doesn't know the lines, or the choreography. She does fine in the scenes (as she's got her script hidden in a book), but she's trying to learn the tray dance that it took everyone else weeks to learn in between scenes backstage. But, surprise! Gina shows up with cupcakes to wish them all well and Kourtney begs her to do the dance. And she's magical. I have such a soft spot for dancers. Half of my YouTube shorts algorithm (I don't really use Instagram and don't have TikTok) is of dancing.

Also, it turns out that Kourtney somehow convinced the dean of the performing arts school that Nini wants to go to, to come see her in the show. This is making Nini kind of freak out.

Ricky, meanwhile, is thrilled to see his parents getting along before the show starts. However, during his big floating basketball dunk scene, he sees his mom kiss her new boyfriend and freezes in mid air. Eventually, he recovers enough to come down, but loses his rhythm and runs off the stage.

Carlos asks him what happened, but he claims he needs to talk to Nini. They then tell him about the dean coming to see her, and he runs over to E.J. and begs him to be Troy for the second half of the show.

I want to say other stuff, but it's more related to episode 10, which I've already seen. So, I'll just keep my mouth shut. Lol. But this was so much better than the previous episode.
