The Fosters 1X15: Padre

So, I think this was my least favorite episode so far. There wasn't even anything really wrong with it. I just didn't jive with it, I guess.

Stef dad has died and we spend the day throwing him a wake. The day starts with Stef, who's already upset, finding Lena's prenatal vitamins, so she's got that on her mind the whole day.

Callie is allowed to attend the funeral and the wake at the house. She and Jude spend a lot of time together, and we get this interspersed with flashback about their mom's funeral. Turns out, the night her mom died, Callie refused to kiss or mom or say good bye to her as she was leaving, and she's been carrying that around for a long time. She also tells someone (maybe Marianna?) that when their mom died, Jude completely destroyed and shred her bedroom to bits, but we learn later, that that was actually Callie and she'd misremembered it.

Anyway, she's just trying to help out and do whatever she can, when Brandon pulls her away to go talk upstairs. He's all like, 'let's just tell everyone right now.' Thankfully, Callie has a little tact and reminds him they are at a funeral and now is not the time.

Later, she ends up losing her mom's necklace and having a breakdown about it. (That isn't meant to be sarcastic, but I realize it might read that way in text). She tearing through the house and trash looking for it. She tears out of the house to cry in the backyard. Stef follows her out and they have an actual real mother/daughter moment. It's so obvious this poor girl needs a family. My god.

Afterwards, Brandon shows up with the missing necklace and they both seem to understand that right now, family is what Callie needs more than a boyfriend. They both confess their love, but realize that they can't date right now. I think this is very mature of them, but I'm also pretty sad about it. And then I feel guilty. I cannot wrap my head around wanting them to be together.

We also get Lena excitedly telling her mom that she wants to have a baby, and her mother mocking and dismissing her. Gross. Later, Lena stands up to her mom and her mom can't help put continue to dig a little bit. Ugh. Just be nice to your fucking daughter. Stef also discusses Lena wanted a baby with her own mother, who also thinks it's a bad idea, but is so much kinder about it. At the end of the episode, Stef finally brings up the topic to Lena herself, but we don't get a resolution of that in this episode.

Oh, and Emma shows up at the wake. She has so got it bad for Jesus. I'm not sure how Jesus feels just yet. I can't tell if he's just awkward around her because he has a girlfriend and doesn't want to hurt her feelings by rejecting her, or if he actually likes her and has a girlfriend and doesn't know how to handle that. Either way, it's hella uncomfortable when Lexi FaceTime's and Emma in the shot with Jesus.
