I was legit so confused when they won the case. I was all like, yay! we won. I forgot that the actual threat right now is Diaz and not Oliver going to jail. Lol.
So Oliver is on trial for being the Green Arrow. And the only non corrupt people in the courtroom seem to be the lawyers (and ex members of Team Arrow). It also doesn't help that Oliver is actually guilty. But, either way, they are mostly doing okay for a while. John and Felicity both lie and say Oliver is not the Green Arrow. Dinah tries to do the same, but she has to plead the 5th eventually (although not about Oliver, but I don't think that helped her testimony). And then Rene was 100% planning on lying as well, but fucking Diaz brought him damn daughter into the courtroom to show him what he'd lose if he lied. So he cracked and claimed Oliver was the Green Arrow.
Then we get a bit of a recess where Oliver's lawyer suggests telling everyone he is the Green Arrow and trying to win them over with all the good he's done. But, he rejects that as he really wants to have a life after he's the Green Arrow and he doesn't want targets on Felicity and William's backs.
When we get back to the case, the Green Arrow ends up crashing through the ceiling. He pulls his mask off and it's Tommy. And he's all, 'Yeah, I'm the Green Arrow. I faked my own death because my dad was an asshole.' And you can go ahead and arrest me, but I'll be free before you even get me in the van. Which is exactly what happens (with a little help from John and Rene). Turns out it's face mask guy. And it took me a very long time to remember we've met him before. He peeled off the Tommy mask and was all, thanks this was fun.
Back in the courtroom, Oliver's lawyer moves to dismiss, but the judge insists on continuing. However, Laurel takes the stand and tells everyone that Tommy is the Green Arrow (defying Diaz). But, since everyone in the damn courtroom is corrupt, it doesn't matter and Oliver is found guilty anyway. But one more surprise! His lawyer asks for a judgment notwithstanding verdict (I'd never heard of that before) and the judge grants it. Why? Because now he's face mask guy. So, Oliver is free to go. And at this point I'm all like, we won! But we still have to deal with Diaz.
Speaking of Diaz, first he kills the judge even though the judge was swearing it wasn't him to let Oliver go free. And even though it's it truth, it's sort of hard to believe that. And then Laurel shows and Diaz is ready to kill her (I guess), but she canary cries at him and then goes to kill him, but he's got a sonic dampener and captures her. His new mission: kill Oliver (and everyone he loves). Dude, that should have been your plan all along.
Oh, and Oliver and Rene make up.
