OMG. The emotional whiplash of this episode. I was so thoroughly entertained in the first half. I laughed so much. And then, in the second half, all I did was cry. You're killing me 9-1-1.
It's a Halloween episode and the 118 has been tasked with setting up the haunted house this year. Chim and Buck are aiming for gory and scary, but Bobby keeps trying to pull them back. Personally, I think it's a pretty good mix. But Buck has found a prop that he uses at the end of the tour, which, turns out to be an actual dead corpse. After accidentally pulling it's arm off and realizing there are actual tendons inside.
And this brings us back to the running debate on this show of, are curses real. Buck is convinced that he's cursed now. Shortly after, he ends up dislocating his shoulder (the same arm he yanked out of Billy Boils- oh yeah, that's the dead guy's name). Tommy and Eddie think this is thoroughly hysterical. And I agree with them. But Buck is so earnest about it.
Later, Buck is up half the night researching Billy Boils. He ends up sleeping on the chair, with Tommy on the couch. Guys, there's a bed upstairs. Buck hurt his shoulder, I'm sure he can walk up the stairs. But anyway, when Buck wakes up in the morning, he's covered in boils. At this point, I really thought it was a practical joke that Eddie and Tommy were playing on him, a and I was shocked to find out that this was not the case.
Meanwhile, Hen and Karen have been fighting since Hen has to work Halloween and won't be able to come with them to take Mara trick-or-treating for the first time. They don't end really end up in a good place. However, while trick-or-treating, Denny ends up getting hit by a car and pinned to a house. The 118 show up and Hen is beside herself. She does everything she can, while she waits for the guys to make sure the house doesn't fall down on him so they can move the car.
However, shortly after, his heart stops and Hen realizes he's bleeding internally. He tells Bobby they need blood ASAP, but it's going to take 15 minutes to get there, which is too long. Thankfully, Eddie is good, and since Denny and Karen have the same blood type, he's able to do a field transfusion to save him, while Hen does chest compressions. They manage to bring him back and get him to the hospital.
Karen and Hen both apologize and claim the other one was right in their argument. But, it doesn't really matter. Denny is going to be fine.
And Buck claims to have figured out how to remove the curse. He goes to the grave of Billy Boils and gives a speech about how he's not alone anymore. As Buck leaves, Tommy asks the corpse to please remove the boils from his boyfriend. This was the moment when I could no long deny that this was a prank from him and Eddie. Maybe it's just an Eddie prank and Tommy wasn't in on it?
But this episode was fun. And heartbreaking. So basically, I really enjoyed it.
