Tell Me Lies 2X1: You Got a Reaction, Didn't You?

Okay, I'm not gonna lie, the first half of this episode, I was kind of disappointed. I thought it was going kind of slow and there wasn't nearly as much drama as I wanted. But holy shit, did the second half make up for it.

So, we're back for our sophomore year (or senior year, I guess, depending on who you are) and Lucy, Pippa and Bree immediately find each other. However, we've got tension between everyone. We're not as comfortable with each other as we used to be. I mean, Lucy slept with Evan so that's an issue, but none of them seem like they are enjoying each other's company.

Stephen spent the summer working for Diana's dad (who sees right fucking through his manipulative bullshit). However, once he gets back to school and runs into Lucy, he tries to piss her off. She pretends that he's not bothering her and is calm and chatters away. He calls her out on it, and she insists that he can't get under her skin anymore.

Lies. He comes up to her in the cafeteria and apologizes (in front of all her friends) for how he treated her, but he tries to make her look like an idiot in the process. I'm sure he thinks he made her look bad, but really, he just looked like trash. He wasn't subtle. Everyone knew what he was doing. Also, why is he so obsessed with her? Doesn't he have what he wants now?

Meanwhile, Bree has scammed her way into the writing class with Lucy so she won't have to take it alone. But she ends up having to cancel plans with Evan to go to some mixer. They are a little strained because, you know, he slept with Lucy (not that Bree knows that, but still) so she's trying to flirt by taking a selfie of herself and runs into the professors husband (a different professor). The two of them are 100% going to have an affair.

Lucy's professor offers her extra credit to transcribe the book she's writing. I can't be the only one who's thinking the book is a thinly veiled account of her husband cheating with students, can I?

After Stephen's bullshit in the cafeteria, Lucy goes to this dorm and chews him out. Telling him that if he doesn't fuck off, she's telling everyone about what happened with Macy. (Did he forget that she knew? Or, more likely, does he has a plan to pin it on her?)

We end back at the wedding, and find that Lucy and Lydia end up in the same place and Lydia tells Lucy she will never forgive her for what she did. WTF did she do?!? I feel like it's something Stephen lied about, but Lucy isn't denying it so 🤷‍♀️. Also we find out that Pippa, after the party, goes home to DIANA? What is happening on this show?

Also, I apologize. I think I used the phrase 'bat shit crazy' so much that it might have lost all meaning. (Doesn't mean it's not true though. Or make the show any less awesome. Lol.)

Okay. So, it wasn't just me. I thought maybe he thought he still held some kind of power over her and she wouldn't still be, like, mesmerized by him or something? Yup. That really does line up with her dad. I was so happy at the time that he called him out on his manipulative bullshit, that I didn't really put it into a greater context. Right? I actually had to make it was Diana. How are all of these people finding relationships with each other? Also, Pippa made me cut bangs. 🤣

My thought the entire episode was, is Stephen an idiot? Like she knows his worst, most (hopefully) criminal secret and he's antagonizing her. He's lucky she didn't immediately rat him out but then to get back to school and poke the bear, what an idiot. Then I remembered what Diana's dad said at the beginning of the episode, if Stephen can't control/manage his need to lie and manipulate, it will come back to bite him in the ass. I feel like this is self-destructive. For whatever reason, he can't let Lucy go or allow her to move on. The reveal that it was Diana left me speechless. I was so confused lol.
