Um, I'm really hoping that this is not all we're getting from Chase. I'm hoping that he had plans to actually get arrested or something, because if that, this felt very anticlimactic.
And, while I sort of disappointed by the Chase stuff, I really enjoyed Oliver and Thea trying to comes to terms with what their parents were like. I love that they had to sit around and try to figure out what it meant if they were terrible people, but good parents who loved them. I love when people acknowledge that people are complex and not everything is always black and white.
So, it turns out, Oliver's dad sort of accidentally killed someone, but then covered it up. Of course, Chase finds out and sends the body to Oliver so the police find out that his dad did it. At first, Oliver thinks it's a smear campaign, but then he sees the footage. Eventually, he holds a press conference and tells the truth about his dad, but also mentions he sacrificed himself for Oliver. I think it was a good compromise.
But, when Oliver is finally face to face with Chase, he basically tells Chase that his daddy didn't love him, and Chase just gives up? I hate this. I'm gonna be so annoyed if this isn't part of a bigger plan. Currently, Chase is in an ARGUS cell, but he was all smirky when he watched Oliver's press conference. I'm hoping he knows something that we don't.
Also, I'm realizing now, we never really got a conclusion on what happened after Chase found William/Matthew. Maybe that's why he's so smug. He knows he's got that over Oliver.
I don't know how I feel about Rene's choice to not go to the hearing. I get both his and Lance's arguments. At the end of the day, I THINK Lance is right, but I could easily be persuaded into thinking that Rene did what he thought was best for his daughter.
It's getting bad. Oliver cupped Felicity's shoulder in this episode gave me hope. đł
