OMG. I was so tense and stressed this entire episode. I swear, I think my abs got their first workout in about 6 years.
So, we all manage not to get shanked by Pocket Boy. Go us. But, we do have to all hustle back to the CO room. Where asshole guard shows up, just to piss us off.
Lincoln is due to be executed at midnight. Michael has done everything he can, but it doesn't seem like he can do anything else. At roughly the six hour mark, they bring him to hang out with Lincoln in his final hours. They shoot the shit, play cards, and mostly just try to forget that Lincoln is gonna die soon.
Eventually, Veronica shows up with bad news. She couldn't convince a judge to delay the execution. But, it turned out, Sara showed up and consumed all the information she and Nick had and tried to plead his case to her father.
Right before Lincoln was to get in the chair, the governor calls and we thing it's going to be good news. But he's rejected the idea of clemency. (We later find out that he's in cahoots with the vice president, so who the hell knows what he actually thinks).
Also, prior to all this, Michael has tried to mess with the chair (he heard from DB Cooper that it'll grant a stay of 3 weeks). He managed to do it, but asshole guard heart from the rat about it and went to check the chair. When he saw it wasn't working, he convinced all the people who knew to keep quiet about it, so things are going on as scheduled.
I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how he's going to get out of this. I'm sure it is (hello, five seasons), but how? Right now, my money is on the doctor coming up with some convoluted bullshit about how he's not healthy enough to get electrocuted. It's not a great prediction, but I have no idea what else it could be!
