The Vampire Diaries 2X15: The Dinner Party

Dude. This episode was wild.

So we've got Elena and Stefan still at the lake house, and still sort of fighting. And the thing is, I sort of get both of their points of view here. I'm not sure who I think is right. Anyway, Elena has been reading Jonathan Gilbert's journals and finds out that Stefan tried to kill him and was only saved thanks to the ring. We also find out that using that knife and tree ash to kill Elijah, will also kill the vampire who wields the knife.

In a panic, Stefan tries to get in touch with Damon because, unbeknownst to Elena, Damon plans to kill Elijah with the knife tonight. Damon doesn't answer, but thankfully, Alaric does and manages to get the message through to Damon. After dinner, Alaric ends up 'killing' him with the knife since he's human. They dump him in the cell and call it a day. However, it turns out that this only works if you leave the knife in, which they don't find out until it's too late. They rush back to the cell, but Elijah is gone.

He burst in on Doctor Witch and demands that he finds Elena. Moments later, he shows up at the lake house. where Elena apologizes for what Alaric did, but begs him to please keep their deal. He refuses. And she tells him that if he doesn't, she'll turn herself into a vampire the same way Katherine did and he'll be without a doppelgänger. He calls her bluff, she she stabs herself with a kitchen knife. He immediately promises to keep everyone safe. Then tells her to come to him so he can heal her. As she approaches him, she stabs him with the knife and leaves it in, effectively killing him at this point. Stefan rushes over and feeds her his blood to save her.

While this is going on, Doctor Witch bursts in on Bonnie and Jeremy's magic session super pissed about what Bonnie did to Luka. He ends up taking her powers, which combined (I think) with Elijah dying, means Katherine is free.

Also, I'm just realizing right now, that John set Damon up. He totally knew that if he used the knife to try to kill Elijah that he would die too. Fuck. This guy is such a smarmy weasel.
