The Vampire Diaries 2X6: Plan B

Um, Damon totally just ripped Mason's heart right out of his chest and killed, right? Everybody saw that? I was so not expecting Mason to die. At all. And now I'm concerned for Matt.

So, we're prepping for a masquerade ball. During which, Elena and Bonnie sneak away and Elena tells her about her 'fake fighting' with Stefan. She also tells her about how she really needs to stop ignoring Caroline. Bonnie says she isn't ready yet.

We're all still looking for this moonstone. Bonnie bumps into Mason and has a vision of him with Elena that they quickly figure out is actually Katherine. Damon and Bonnie kidnap Mason to figure out what he knows. Once he's tied up, Bonnie searches his mind and discovers the stone at the bottom of a well. They text Stefan the location, and he heads over.

Unable to keep herself out of the loop, Elena follows him, even though she knows she shouldn't. Stefan jumps down into the well only to discover that it's full of vervain. He's in a lot of pain, and calls for Elena to help him, but she's not strong enough. Thankfully, Caroline heard her yelling and helps Elena get down to save him. Caroline pulls up Stefan, and then Elena after she finds the moonstone. Stefan looks terrible, but Elena gives him some of her blood to help.

While is is happening, Damon is busy torturing Mason to try to figure out what he and Katherine are doing. Why do they want the stone? How is Katherine involved? Once he figures out that Mason is only doing this because he loves Katherine and she 'loves' him, he calls him an idiot and kills him.

Stefan comes home just in time to help Damon with the body. They send a text from his phone that he's gone back to Florida. Damon then uses his phone to call and taunt Katherine. She tells him she has multiple backup plans, so now she'll just move on to the next one. No big deal. She then is seen compelling Matt to push Tyler hard enough to make him kill him. She's lost her werewolf and needs another one.

Oh, she's also been compelling Jenna, so she knows that Elena and Stefan have been together all this time. And just to show Elena she can, she has Jenna stab herself in the stomach with a butcher knife.

Elena is distraught and goes to Stefan and tells him it's really over this time. Then being together is putting too many people in danger. If this is an act, it's a hell of a performance from both of them. I have no idea if it's real or not, but either way, they probably really do need to keep their distance from each other until Katherine is dealt with.

Also, Caroline and her mom are finally bonding. So much so, that her mom tells her not to compel her. She promises not to tell anyone about Caroline, but she doesn't want to forget. As much as Caroline wants to let her remember, she knows it's not safe for Damon and Stefan so she ends up compelling her mom and making her think she had the flu. OMG. I was so, so sad for Caroline in this scene. Poor girl. Finally got the mom she always wanted and immediately has to give her back. 😢
