One Tree Hill 7X7: I and Love and You

You know, when I was watching this episode, I was annoyed at the way it was structured. All I wanted to do was see how it was gonna go down with Renee. But we had all this all bullshit in between. But, in hindsight, I think this was a really good way to present this story. I'd like to apologize for my yelling about it during. 🤣

So, anyway, Renee is on Dan's show. Unbeknownst to her, the final segment is her getting hooked up to a polygraph machine to see if she's telling the truth. The results come back, that she is. However, Dan then hooks himself up, and says a bunch of stuff that are obvious lies and they all come back as the truth too. Turns out, this was all bullshit. But then he claims he's got body language experts backstage who analyzed her while she was answering, and they know she's lying. (This is a lie, there's no one back there). She ends up admitting it was a lie. She never slept with Nathan and it's not his baby.

Naley, decided to not even watch after a little while and just went outside to enjoy the evening together. Quinn had to go get them when this broke. Obviously, they are relieved and so am I. I didn't realize quite how anxious I was about it until it was all over.

Also, we find out that Dan was able to know that Renee was lying because a con man can always spot a con man. And we find out that Dan did get a heart transplant, who knows how long ago (but that scar looks old). He's totally milking his I could die at any moment shtick. It's very Dan. I do wonder about Dan's motives for this though. Does he think this is going to help repair his relationship with Nathan? Or was this just really good TV?

In other news, Brooke finally admits to Julian that she wanted to marry him, but he hurt her feelings when he told his dad they weren't getting married. He assures her that he plans to be with her forever. However, he is still working with Alex and Brooke is still not happy about it. But he claims it's a really good script now. I don't know how they are going to handle this.

We got more backstory on both Clay and Quinn. And I continue to enjoy Clay, and Quinn, not so much. Basically David 'sold out', and starting chasing material stuff and money, and Quinn just wanted to be broke, happy artists. Clay, on the other hand, is hanging out with his head wife. I'm assuming this is the thing that he was telling Quinn about, the thing he came to Tree Hill for. He sort of broke down and this isn't a vacation. His wife died. Does Nathan know this? In hindsight, her being dead, is so great for the story. Much better than if she were alive and just came to try to patch up their relationship. A lot of the word choices are excellent when they're together. You realize it makes sense when you know the whole story.

I'm really hoping that next episode, things get back on track for Nathan. He and Haley have been through so much lately, it's really time for something for them.

Plot twist I didn’t see coming that Sara was actually dead and he wasn’t just seeing her 😭

Thumbs up for another fantastic Naley thumbnail, hehe. I love this episode so damn much. Not only is it a favorite of mine for S7, but it's also one of my favorites of the entire series. It was written, directed, and acted so amazing well....and a huge shoutout to James Lafferty for directing his second episode of the series and shining so bright in it, in front of and behind the camera. All of the choices he made for this episode played out brilliantly onscreen. From all the lighting choices, to the use of the flashbacks...playing Clay and Sara's story back in reverse after the reveal that she died, the intimate scenery shots of Naley out back their house, all cuddled together in the chair overlooking their pool as The Avett Brothers "I and Love and You" played as the coda for the episode...just superb all the way around!!! Also loved your reaction for the past several episodes as well Dana because you didn't guess a lot of what was happening, lol, which made your surprise to it, all that more entertaining, lol. Don't worry...I didn't think you were ranting too much this episode; I knew you were just excited to get back to Naley, and Dan, hehe. Another reason why I loved this story arc for Naley this season so much is because it wasn't about whether Nathan cheated on Haley or not, and whether history was repeating itself, or simply another skank throwing themselves at Nathan, this was strictly about showing the downside of fame and fortune and the celebrity to it all and how Nathan and his family are easy targets now. I was waiting for you to realize that, yes....it was all indeed just about the money, and someone like Renee was just hoping that Naley would easily give her $200,000 to go away, no questions asked, and that would be the end of it because she thought that was the easiest thing to do, but then Naley decided to fight back, and she got angry and desperate. Also loved the fact that we got to see how it not only affected both Nathan and Haley as individuals, and as a couple, but we got to see how it affected Jamie and their family, and I just thought the whole thing was brilliantly done and executed. It was a very realistic portrayal of a celebrity athlete, and I appreciated so much that the show didn't bungle it up at all...well done indeed!!! And I loved that you didn't initially pick up on the fact that of course Dan was only setting up Renee to out her and help out Nathan, hehe. When he exposed her.... fantastic indeed. And yes...he already got his heart transplant, which was his reasoning for doing the show. Remember in the premiere in 7x01, he said that his light was supposed to go out a long time ago, lol, and in this episode, we cut to Rachel running her fingers over his scar. And those two are just comedy gold together, hehe, but cons in their own right as well, lol. And I knew you'd be surprised at the reveal that Sara was indeed a ghost that Clay was talking too, hehe. I was wondering if you were going to pick it up last episode when she appeared at the bar, but you never did, hehe. If you notice, her mannerisms were very distinct in how they dressed her in light, angelic clothing, and she never touched Clay, only in the flashbacks done to portray their story together. You really bought their connection and love story, and Clay's backstory was revealed amazingly well. It totally fits his character that he would be reeling and devastated, going through a breakdown if you will that led him to Nathan and Tree Hill. it was an amazing character choice for him. I think you will really grow to like his stories because of it!!! And Sara died instantly from an aneurysm, not drinking grape Kool-Aid, lol, although we did learn that grape Kool-Aid was Clay and Sara's thing. And that scene in the church at Sara's casket with Clay placing his wedding ring on Sara's finger.... heartbreaking indeed. Rob was such an MVP in this episode...he acted his ass off.... well done sir. Everybody did though....and the use of Dan's show being the backdrop to tell all the characters stories of love and loss.... I just can't say enough about how wonderful this episode is. One of the best in my opinion. And the coda and the song at the end and starting with Naley sitting out back with Nathan saying, "I love you so much my beautiful wife" and Clay and Sara, Brooke, and Julian, and Quinn and David in the middle, and going back Naley at the end.... excellent job indeed!!! Props OTH!!!! P.S. Wishing everyone affected by Hurricane Helene a safe, fast, and speedy recovery....as much as possible with a storm of this magnitude. My area just barely lucked out from taking a direct hit and being in the worst part of it...the eye...so my thoughts, love, and prayers go out to all, as I just got my power back today, and escaped much damage, but it's been an absolute harrowing experience. Even though us Floridians are certainly used to hurricanes, one of this magnitude is never easy to get through....and now all the flooding it's bringing to Ga, N.C., and Tennessee, is just heartbreaking. So many prayers go out indeed.
