Outlander 7X1: A Life Well Lost

I am legitimately shocked, that they didn't keep Jamie and Claire apart for a much longer amount of time. I figured if I was lucky, they'd get back together next episode, but I was planning on 3 or so episodes. I'm so happy!

So, it doesn't take all that long, actually, for them to get to the jail. Unfortunately, Claire is already gone. Some soldiers showed up and took her as they needed a healer. Turns out, a governor (maybe, they called him 'your excellency') had a pregnant wife that needed attending to on a ship.

Shortly after Claire gets there, she realizes that they intend to keep her on the ship for the duration of the journey. She manages to convince the governor (we're just gonna call him that) that she needs supplies and tries to get off the ship to go to town, but he just has her make a list. She insists that the list be given to Christie, who sees one of the ingredients is 'my husband.'

He finds Jamie and tells him where she is. Jamie immediately hops on a boat and negotiates Claire's freedom for 200 soldiers. It seems obvious that Jamie is not planning to follow through on this, but who cares? We've got a plan to get Claire out!

So this is when the confusion sets in. In Tom being truthful when he says, he's going to admit to murdering Malva? Or is it just because he loves Claire and cannot bear to see her in pain? I know I guessed him as the culprit, but I honestly cannot decide if he did it or not. But, either way, he plans to confess so that Claire is released. He's signed a confession and everything. We also find out (although, I'm not sure if it's actually consequential) that Malva is actually the daughter of Tom's brother and his wife.

I mean, on the plus side, I'm glad to be rid of him, but also, I wanna know the truth! For someone who claims to love unreliable narration, it's sure screwing me over right now. Lol.

But Claire is freed and all is right the Jamie and Claire world. However, shortly after their reunion, Jamie realizes that Brown is in town. And he accosts him at the hotel. And he tries to plead with Jamie telling him he's a moral man. But that fucker tried to take Claire and there are no gray areas where Claire is concerned. This guy had to go. And while we don't actually get to see it, I think it's fairly obvious that Jamie killed him.

I mean, I don’t disagree. But objectively, everything that Jamie does is hot. That said, this might have been the end all be all for me. Any goodness I have is because of my wife? I hope in my next life, I come back as Claire.

Jamie killing Brown in cold blood because of Claire was hot (for lack of a better word, lol)! "I'm also a violent man. Any goodness that prevails in me is because of my wife. You tried to take her from me."😭❤️
