So after binging on the human blood last episode, Stefan is trying to go cold turkey this episode. It's not going well. He's got terrible withdrawals (and it doesn't help that Damon is trying to tempt him into caving by leaving human blood all over the place), and ends up getting a bit aggressive with Elena. But to his credit, he throws himself into a wall before he can hurt her in any way.
Later, at the Founders Day party (didn't we just have one of these?), Stefan finds himself confronted with the blood of Matt's mom (we'll get to that later) and he finds himself in a trance and smearing it around her head. He fights the urge to lick his fingers, but eventually loses and is hopped up on the blood. He runs into a guy in the parking lot and gets into and altercation with him. He compels him to say he is clumsy and fell over.
After the party, Stefan goes to Elena's and apologizes for his behavior. He also says he needs to stay away from her because he can't control himself around her right now. She assures him that she trusts him, and they embrace. (During which, I'm positive he's going to bite her, but he doesn't). They exchange 'I love yous' and all seems fine enough.
At the end of the night, he goes home and Damon notices how awful he looks. He speculates that it's much harder this time to give up human blood. And, like earlier, leaves a glass of human blood out for Stefan, and this time, he drinks it.
In non-Stefan related news, Elena and Jeremy's uncle shows up to deal with their dad's estate. Turns out, he's part of the vampire hunter crowd and they embrace him pretty much immediately. However, at the party, Damon confronts him and he tells Damon he knows he's a vampire and that he's the one responsible for opening the tomb. Damon snaps his neck and throws him over the balcony. And, much to his shock, he's back at the party giving a speech a little while later. Turns out, he's got one of those Alaric rings. Actually, Alaric's ring came from John originally. He gave it to Isobel, and she gave it to Alaric. This is getting genealogically complicated.
Matt and Tyler decide to get drunk. It's all fine and good until Tyler runs into Matt's mom, who is also drunk (no surprise there), and the two of them start making out. Matt stumbles upon them and gets into a fight with Tyler. The two of them beat each other up until they are separated by Alaric. But in the scuffle, Kelly (I finally looked up her name) gets injured, hence Stefan being drawn to her blood later.
And at the end of the episode, we see Jeremy riffling through Elena's room looking for her diary. He finds and realizes that all the stuff he's feared is true. Vicki was a vampire, Damon compelled him, and probably a bunch of other stuff I forgot.
This is shaping up to be a good end of the season!
