Outlander 6X4: Hour of the Wolf

You know, before this episode started, I asked for an Ian centric episode. I could not have gotten a better episode for that. However, as much as I wanted this, I didn't want it to be sad! I've been super curious about what happened while Ian was away and I finally got the story, and I almost wish I hadn't.

So, Jamie and Ian had to the Cherokee to bring the guns that they requested. As soon as they arrive, Ian realizes that it's not just Cherokee that are here, but Mohawk as well. Then he gets to telling Jamie the backstory. Finally.

When he was living with the Mohawk, he became one of them and lost his 'white identity.' He fell in love with a Mohawk woman and married her. And I totally believed how in love they were. In just, like, 10 minutes I was convinced. Anyway, she gets pregnant, but loses the baby during childbirth. Ian is devastated. She gets pregnant again, but she miscarries again. After this, the tribe decides he's not Mohawk enough for his spirit to make a baby and they banish him and tell him to go back to his own people. At first he refuses and runs back to his wife, only to find her with his best friend. She tells him this is the way it has to be, and heartbroken, he heads back to the ridge.

However, on this trip to the Cherokee, it's his ex-best friend that is there to trade. Ian confronts him, but somehow this turns into another Indian agent challenging Ian's friend to a duel. Ian ends up lending him one of Jamie's guns, and he makes Ian promise to take care of his wife (Ian's ex wife) should he lose. During the duel the other guy cheats, and Ian catches him. This means that the friend gets a free shot. But he declines, saying he'll have to live as a coward. Ian and the friend sort of buy the hatchet, and Ian tells him to take care of his wife (of something similar to that).

Meanwhile, Jamie warns the chief of what will happen to his people in the future, giving them a chance to run and hide, so as not to get wiped out in war.

Back at the ridge, Claire teaches Malva how to use the ether for surgery. I'm still a little concerned about this. It feels like they are spending a lot of time on it, which means something is probably gonna go horribly wrong.

Also, Malva is suspect. I don't know exactly what it is about her, but something just seems off. Maybe it's her dad? But every time Claire left her alone I was afraid she was gonna steal stuff. And then we have her being a creepy voyeur watched Claire and Jamie have sex in the horse barn.
