Stranger Things 3X3: Chapter Three: The Case of the Missing Lifeguard

So, am I the only one who is worried that maybe Max is using El for her abilities? I can't tell. Hopefully, I'm worried for no reason. They just got off to such a weird start, it seems odd that Max immediately glommed onto her.

Anyway, they've been spying on the boys with El's vision and see Billy doing something weird and then sort of realizes she's there and disappears. The girls then go on a hunt to figure out what's going on. They find Billy and the home of Heather (the lifeguard he kidnapped last episode) and all seems fine, if a little odd. Once they leave, Heather's mom passes out, and Billy hands Heather a bottle to hit her father in the head with. Then she drugs him. All very odd.

Meanwhile, Will has been trying to get Lucas and Mike to play D&D, but they are more interested in trying to get their girlfriends back. Will feels left out and leaves in the middle of a storm. He heads to Castle Byers and ends up destroying it after reminiscing about his friends. They show up just as Will can feel what Billy and Heather have done, and he tells them that he's back. (The big cloud spider monster, I assume).

Also, ice cream girl has cracked the code. She, Steve, and Dustin are watching while Russians are having something delivered to the shoe store. No idea what it is, and neither do they. But the guards all have big guns, so it's probably not great.

Joyce convinces Hopper to check out the lab with her because she's sure someone is messing with electromagnetism. He reluctantly agrees with her after she makes a good argument. At first they find nothing, but suddenly, Hopper is attacked by...someone, who rides off on a motorcycle just as Joyce finds him.

I think we're starting to get into the meat of the season now. Still not sure what's going on (no surprise there) but I'm having fun!

Comments

1) With Max, I think she's just a little girl who doesn't seem to have any girls who are her friends. She hangs around with boys all the time and I think that she's desperate to have a friend who is a girl. Also El is a badass superhero and sweet girl. If I were Max I would glom onto her as well lol. I also think that Max is a bit naive to what a toll it takes on El to use her powers. And El seems to want to show off her powers and at times she feels like she needs to use her powers but Max isn't really forcing El to use her powers... it's really of El's own volition. At the end of the day Max is a very sweet girl and I don't think that she has bad intentions. The Max and El friendship is very cute and El needs a girl who is a friend. (2) The scene with Steve and Dustin spying is so hilarious. Like imagine minding your own business shopping at a mall and you see two dudes in plain sight behind some sort of greenery (greenery that's in the middle of a food court) with binoculars and then they think an aerobics teacher is a Russian spy. I can't with these two... they fucking crack me up lol. (3) As to Billy, that version of himself he saw in 3x02 was just like the forces of the Upside Down appearing to him in the form of himself. It doesn't have too much importance to the story specifically and it's never really mentioned again. I mean it's important but it doesn't have any deeper meaning then what it was in that past episode. They appear to him to tell him what he's to do. It might have even been a future version of himself. Again it's not really a spoiler because that is never really mentioned again. (4) What I will say about the whole Heather/Billy of it all is that so far everyone affected by the rats and what not have not died but they all acting weird. The old lady isn't dead but she's eatin frickin fertilizer. Heather isn't dead but she's drugging her Mom and Dad. In the next episodes you'll find out why everyone is acting weird but that's all I feel safe saying at this point lol. (5) The girl who cracked the code is named Robin. (6) The Upside Down can be confusing because of how El interacts with it. The void that El goes into isn't really the Upside Down. El can communicate with people in the void who are in the Upside Down but also people who are not. It's just a place that El goes to in her mind. So when Billy disappeared that was just El losing communication with him. The Upside Down itself is pretty easy to identify the more you see it because there's all that stuff flying in the air that looks like cotton or snow or something. The coloring is also very dark and different than our world. There are many gates or in other words doors to the Upside Down. There was the main gate that El accidentally opened and there was also the little gate that was in the tree in S1 that Nancy goes into. There was the gate in the field that Hopper goes into and it led to that tunnel in the Upside Down. As to how the gates open... we know that El opened one using her powers and as to the others maybe demogorgons opened it or demodogs. They open for various reasons.
