One Tree Hill 6X11: We Three (My Echo, My Shadow and Me)

I truly have no idea what to make of this episode. I have no idea if I even liked it. Is this a polarizing episode? I feel like this is a love it or hate it episode. But I don't know where I fall, so maybe it's not. Lol.

Does anything from this episode mean anything at all? Maybe minus the end with Peyton, was this just a standalone, one off episode? Am I supposed to take anything from this? Naley is gonna Naley. And Dan sucks in every universe. That was kind of my takeaway.

Don't know what was going on with Peyton at the end of his episode though. I feel like that's the only thing that might carry over, although, I can't see how.

In the dream, Peyton gets shot and dies in Lucas' arm. This is sort of becoming a pattern for her. Right as that happens in the dream, Peyton calls Luke in real life and wakes him up. They talk for a minute. He makes her promise to never leave him, and she doubles over in pain in real life just after hanging up the phone.

Please tell me if the fandom tends to like this episode.

Naley were the best part of this episode, hands down, and I love that no matter who's writing for them, they manage to get the history of them that's cannon in any universe and you can see why they are so easy and inspiring to play around with in any scenario. In this universe of 40's Casablanca, love that Chad was inspired to take them down the rabbit hole of the war hanging in the background of them finally meeting and getting together for the first time, and it's what propelled Naley's date that led to them getting married the next day before Nathan had to ship out, and The JL's rocked all of their scenes together. It was filled with their famous cracker jacks, wedding night, and of course always and forever. That coupled with all of Joy's music that she scored for the entire episode, and the fabulous 40's inspired wardrobe, I wouldn't have minded more in that world for Naley, lol. I wanted the sequel of Nathan returning home to Haley, and meeting his baby son for the first time, hehe. But it's funny that with the rewatches or those that are binge watching the series now, this episode doesn't rate very high because at the time of filming this episode and when it aired in the fall of 2008, the buzz surrounding it was at an all-time high. Some of that had to do with the intrigue of Chad writing it, and them turning downtown Wilmington into Casablanca and building the entire Karen's Cafe set on the soundstages in 3 weeks, but it was a massive undertaking that got a huge amount of press. They even did a huge photoshoot spread to promote the episode, and Joy was more than stoked to be tasked with the responsibility of scoring all the music and writing all the songs for it. The cast at the time was thrilled to be doing something unique and different for a bottle episode at this point during the show's run......so it just seems so wild now that it hasn't seemed to age well, when at the time, that most definitely wasn't the case at all, lol.

S8 starts off strong in my opinion. At least the first half of the season does, but the overall storylines leave a lot to be desired as the season progresses. There seems to be a conscious that's it's a pretty boring season, but I think you'll find enough things to enjoy or at least not hate, lol. And S9 is super strong so you have that to look forward to as well :)

Melissa

It was one of those “mid-season” episodes that had nothing to do with anything until the end! Just like the Episode where “if life happened differently where Nate was Luce and Luce was Nate” type episode!

Jamie Sawyer

I did not expect such one sided results. I kind of thought there would be half the people who really liked this. Lol.

Dana Licciardello

Trust me. So much important stuff comes out of that episode. And I'll trust you that most other musical episodes are probably garbage. Lol.

Dana Licciardello

Never seen Buffy so, sure. :)

Nebulous Shooter

Totally agree. Some of my favorite episodes are bottle episodes and I love to see the characters have fun and interact without such high stakes. This one just wasn't a good one

sandrinegeller

Season 8 is my least favorite season.

Sabrina

Yeah, Joy wrote and sang all the songs for this entire episode.

Sabrina

So I'm hearing some lament for season 8. I'm guessing I have something to (not) look forward to. Lol.

Dana Licciardello

So that was actually Joy's voice? Holy hell it was beautiful. And powerful. I don't know what genre she actually sings in, but she should totally transition to this.

Dana Licciardello

Yes! I love the 40s clothes! I would not have wanted to live in the 40s, but I would love to dress like them all the time! Plus, as I said, Naley is gonna Naley. I loved that about the episode. It was really the only think I was rooting for.

Dana Licciardello

I thought it would be love it or hate it. But it seems like it's just hate it. 🤣

Dana Licciardello

Minus the Buffy musical episode, right? Right? So much came out in that episode. But to be fair, I don't know that I've seen another musical episode, so...

Dana Licciardello

I don't mind a bottle episode per se, but this seemed, useless. If your bottle episode contributes towards something, sure. But this was kind of useless.

Dana Licciardello

This seems to be the consensus. I didn't even really know what to make of it. I liked to look at the style and Peyton had really great shoes, but other than that 🤷‍♀️

Dana Licciardello

Not speaking for everybody but I am not a huge fan of this episode. As someone who has seen the series about 10 times I’ve only watched this episode twice.

Ethan Crider

I actually don't mind Season 8 but I know some OTH fans don't like it. For me though Season 2 is the season I don't like and rarely rewatch.

Morgan

Haha! Yeah I was being sarcastic cause I don't enjoy season 8. There are some good moments but overall 🙄

Ali M

I don't think it fits in any season lol. Alternative universe type episodes aren't One Tree Hill's strong episodes. 2x20 is probably OTH's best alternate universe type episode and it isn't that great. 4x10 half alternate universe episode/half real-time episode isn't how I would've followed up one of the best episodes of the entire series (4x09). This one is just bad I would honestly watch every episode in Season 8 before I watch this episode lol.

Morgan

Yeah this is a very unpopular episode in the show. Most people skip it every time we rewatch. It’s kind of a bottle episode so nothing really matters except it’s all fantasy and yeah it’s pretty dumb. Credit to Chad for trying something new writing this episode but the premise was just too weird

sandrinegeller

I feel like this episode belongs in season 8 but maybe that is just me 🤷‍♀️ Lol!

Ali M

Yeah, I hate this type and musical episodes with a burning passion. Waste of time, always.

Nebulous Shooter

Same and Haley/Joy's voice. She is AMAZING in this genre! This is probably the most hated epi of the entire series.

Heather

I don't like this episode at all 😂 Didn't realize we were already on it.

Ali M

This isn't a well liked episode among One Tree Hill fans. Ironically Chad (Lucas) wrote this episode. The only thing I like about this episode is the wardrobe and that Naley is still Naley even in a dream sequence/alternate universe type episode.
