Oh, this was so, so, so, much better than the previous episode!
I think I mentioned last episode that Eddie and Maddie fit in so well. I love Eddie. I love this character. I love his life. I love his friendship with Buck (and poor Buck this episode, he was losing his mind). I love this family he's created for himself here, even if his family doesn't understand it.
His parents were all like, who's gonna watch Christopher when you're pulling 24 hour shifts? And the answer is, whoever is around. That's what it's like being part of this family. Lots of times it's Buck, sometimes it's Clara, sometimes Christopher is just at the station. But that's the point. This family that he's built here something special. They all treat Christopher like he's precious to them, because he is.
During this episode, Eddie is stuck in a pipe while trying to save a child. While he stuck down there, he's having some memories of being back in the army. We find out he saved a bunch of people and received a silver star for it. And he doesn't feel like he did enough. Sounds like Eddie. But Christopher is so proud of his dad.
He manages to get to the child, but his time is up and they start to pull him back out. Knowing if he leaves now, the child dies, Eddie cuts the strap and refuses to come up with the kid. Meanwhile, lightening strikes and everything collapses. Eddie does manage to find his way back to the child and stays with him until help comes in the form of Chim. He takes the boy and tells Eddie he'll send a rope down for him.
But chaos ensues and went mud and explosions happen and the hole starts to fill with water. Eventually when he has no more air, he takes a breath and plans to float away, but Christophers voice comes to him. He swims his way into a nearby pond and saves himself.
Holy shit. This episode was intense. I'm not gonna gush anymore about how much I love Eddie and Christopher, but there's gotta be some good Eddie/Buck fanfic, right?
Also, I manage to do a good bit of ugly crying. I'm assuming no one is surprised.
