One Tree Hill 4X14: Sad Songs for Dirty Lovers

Um, Haley is my hero. She threw a drink in Rachel's face AND bitch slapped her. PLUS, she would have done worse if she wasn't pregnant.

So, speaking of Rachel, is she gonna get suspended? Please! Get her off the show! (But then who would you love to hate, Dana. You hate Dan, but you don't really love to him the way you do Rachel).

Do we think Nathan was too harsh with Deb? I don't think so.

I'm still annoyed at Karen. Why is she letting Dan in this much?!?

Totally confused about the whole Mouth and Shelly situation. What exactly is the problem here? I get it on paper, but then she slept with him anyway, so I so don't get it.

WTF. We totally didn't know about this sex tape, right? I can't always trust my own memory, but I'm fairly certain we've never seen this before. When the hell did it happen? It must have been sometime before Nathan and Haley got together. (I can believe he'd cheat on Peyton- also they broke up and got back together constantly- but not Haley).

And poor Haley! She was being such a good sport when we saw Nathan kissing Peyton in the video, but you could tell her heart sank when she saw Nathan with Brooke.

Yes, Lucas and Peyton are the most hated characters of the main 5. People really hate Lucas in romantic relationships, and think that the women deserve better. I must admit I lumped them together tied at the bottom when I first watched. Upon rewatches Lucas is all by himself at the bottom. Peyton is fine for me when she's not all about Lucas.

Sabrina

Yes they all need therapy :) Overall, people like Lucas because he is a great friend and brother :) But let's say that he can be a divisive character in the comments lol Thank you for your reactions Dana !

Alex

Yeah. I definitely didn't read that correctly. Sorry. And I also feel like this was just drama for the sake of drama. And this show has so much of it, we don't need to just add more arbitrarily. Wait. People hate Lucas? I did not realize this. I was definitely getting a Brooke over Peyton vibe in the comments, but I had no idea people didn't like Lucas! I was such a hard Leyton shipper when this started. But then I kind of went with it when he got with Brooke. Now, I'm fine with him being back with Peyton. I actually prefer him with Peyton, but I don't really think now is a good time for Peyton to be with anyone. She really just needs some therapy and to heal. In my opinion, Naley is the important ship on this show. Either way, the writers aren't doing Peyton any favors right now. They just keep piling more and more trauma and misery onto her!

Thank you for your answer :) What I'm trying to say is that I don't really want to care about this popularity contest between Brooke and Peyton. I totally get why Brooke's personality is more enjoyable but you will quickly understand that some fans simply hate Peyton because of Lucas (and they hate Lucas even more lol) and want to push the "good Brooke" vs "bad friend Peyton" BS forever... Storytelling can't win. Btw, this story reminds me of the Brooke/Chris Keller/Lucas drama in S3 before Brucas got back together... There are many parallels.

Alex

I can only speak for myself (and I know you said this wasn't directed at me, but still lol), but I think a lot of why I like Brooke so much is because, at least recently, poor Peyton is just drowning in misery. And while I feel bad for her (how could you not?), it's oftentimes just more fun to watch a happy, bubbly Brooke. But that was certainly not always the case. I don't know if you watched my earlier reactions, but I was not a fan of Brooke. It took me a good bit to come around to her. My issue with the writing is that (from what I've been told) they are trying to garner some sympathy for Peyton, but in my opinion, they are just making things worse for her. All we really need to do, in my opinion, is let her and Luke be happy for a little while, and keep her from any more trauma. They just aren't giving her any opportunity to enjoy her life. I know this is a teen drama, but come on. Let the girl live a little! It does kind of look like we might be heading in that direction though. I also just kind of hated this storyline all together. Neither Nathan or Brooke are these people anymore. Why are we treating current day people as though they were the same people they were 2 years ago? This went on longer than I meant it to. Sorry. Lol.

Dana Licciardello

It's annoying because I like Brooke (not so much in HS) but people are so biased/protective of her - I'm not talking about you Dana ;) I hate/love the sex tape storyline because I think it adds unneeded drama between Brooke and Peyton. But I have to admit that it was a good idea for shocking drama x) but it's more shocking than serious overall. And it was not out of character for Nathan & Brooke (2 years ago).

Alex

Yeah the Nathan and Brooke sex tape came out of nowhere. It never really made a lot of sense in my opinion. It’s kind of known knowledge that the writers of the show added this in to try to make Peyton more likeable because at this time when the show was on air people still didn’t like Peyton because of what she did to Brooke. So they were trying to make it even between them. Love your reactions! :)

My take on the Mouth/Shelly situation is that Mouth 100% manipulated Shelley into sleeping with him. He played games (ignoring her at the party, so she has to chase him) and played the victim card (nobody likes me except as a friend, boo hoo). She is very clearly traumatized by her past and hasn't healed. She was not ready for a serious relationship. She was not ready to have sex. She was not ready to have sex at a party in pretty much the same scenario as before. If he would have thought about someone other than himself, being the cool dangerous guy and losing his virginity he would have seen that. Mouth totally disregarded her reasons for starting Clean Teens and taking back her virginity. Whether he agreed or not, it's what she had to do process and take control of what she went through. He did not take that seriously. I do feel like he pressured her because of her past. He took advantage of the hot girl who wanted him who "wasn't really a virgin," (so it's ok), despite her obvious discomfort with the situation. He saw the girl from summer camp. Gigi was great, but he initially had to talk himself into going out with her over that random model. He's always sought validation from the "hot" girls. This was his chance. He looks at being the nice guy and the friend as a bad thing. This wasn't a nice guy move. So I guess Mouth got what he wanted. The reason Shelly left was because even though she liked Mouth or could love him eventually, she didn't want to have sex with him and she was mad at herself for doing it. I didn't feel bad for Mouth. He totally manipulated and pressured her into it.

Heather

Dan was my love to hate. I just hated Rachel.

Sabrina

Haley is definitely my hero too!!! Her throwing the drink in Rachel's face and bitch slapping the crap out of her is iconic.... Go Haley!!! And no Dana, you wouldn't have put the pieces together about the sex tape because it wasn't part of the show's history back then. As if you couldn't tell from the ridiculous flashback that was filmed trying to replicate S1. It was only put in this season as an add on because the network wanted something shocking and the writers wanted to level the playing field between Brooke and Peyton, so they came up with this. It was really lazy and cheap writing in my opinion to throw Brooke and Nathan under the bus to service the Brooke/Peyton storyline, but it ended up having the opposite effect actually. Everyone hated it, even all the actors, and all the fans that hated Peyton still hated her and didn't find her sympathetic at all, and everyone still loved Brooke, so that didn't work, and poor Naley were just collateral damage in a storyline that didn't have anything to do with them...so like I said lazy writing all the way around. It was hated back then when it was airing, and I think it still gets fans heated today when talking about it, lol!!!

Melissa

I’m glad you provide so much of your thoughts in the comments for the episodes because I can still chime in even if I’m waiting for you to finish the season! Yes, of course it was before he even knew about Haley or her existence. I think it was just one of the million break ups peyton and him went through, he was a dumb dumb boy but it’s not really that surprising, early season 1 Nathan was certainly something else 😂. I can’t help but think that the writers just did this so they could make peyton likeable again and the playing field even when it comes to the hurt both Brooke and peyton went through because of each other but honestly even if they did do that (which probably was the case) I still really like it as a storyline. That’s just a personal opinion, I know a lot of people hated it. I just like what comes out of it.

Jenny V

Nathan cheating on Peyton isn’t a surprise cause we all knew how he was in season 1. He didn’t care about anyone but himself but Dan taught him that
