One Tree Hill 4X9: Some You Give Away

Ugh. Am I the only one who freaks out when we get a black intro? I can't be, right?

I've been fairly sure that Haley is gonna lose this baby for a while now. It's gonna be here. Especially after she told Nathan she was having a boy. They were just too happy about it. Ultimately, I feel like Haley will be fine, but Nathan will have to tell the doctors to sacrifice the baby to save Haley.

Speaking of Nathan, I love that he decided that he loved the team, and Tree Hill more than himself for this game. It didn't hurt that the loan shark dudes were all like, 'We fucked up, we thought he was gonna be like you Dan. Turns out he's a good, decent human.' But his conscience is gonna be eating away at him for winning the game after the cost.

If Dan goes to jail for Nathan, he'll be like 2% of the way to making up for all the horrible shit he's done. I've yet to forgive him. And don't plan to. BUT I do think it might be possible in by the end of the series, which is something I've never thought before.

Lucas, I also think is will be fine. Sure, he's dead and all, but I imagine it'll be easier to get him in better shape than Haley. And for as many times as I was sure he was gonna pass out on the court, this was so much worse.

Somehow, Brooke seems totally cool with Lucas and Peyton getting back together. It was actually her who encouraged them to get back together. And she was the one who told Peyton Lucas as in the hospital. And seemed seriously concerned about her because of it.

Fuck Rachel.

I have been waiting for you to get to this episode Dana...this one and the next one go together, and the next one, episode 4x10 aired as the midseason finale before winter hiatus that season. Most fans put this one up there as one of their all-time favorites of not only S4 but perhaps the entire series. It was that impactful as the show had been building up to it for 4 years, and the consequences and ramifications were huge. The announcer that you hear at the beginning stating that the Ravens lost the championship was actually from 18 years earlier when Dan was a senior on the team, and they were playing for the state title and Dan walked away from the game and his teammates over a dispute with Whitey that they've alluded to over the years during the previous seasons. Whitey pauses the tape during halftime as he's trying to get the current teams attention by proving that playing selfish and bickering with your teammates will stick with you for a lifetime if you go out that way, and you realize that it's still the same announcer that was announcing the games way back then and is still doing the current Ravens games....so it was pretty brilliantly done. I guess it fooled you too with them going back and forth between the games, hehe!!! And how awesome was it that this time around they won the game running the exact same play that they lost the first round of the playoffs from back in S1. Like I said...4 years in the making, and that's why it was so emotional. Who would have ever guessed way back then.... that all of this would be on the line now, hehe, simply amazing!!! Then we get back to Naley as Nathan is coming out of the locker room and Haley's waiting for him and she tells him that he's going to have a son, and suddenly everything changes for him. He goes out on fire during the second half of the game, willing his teammates to victory, so as to not let down his family. That's Nathan Scott for you. Loved that moment for them btw...that's such an epic and golden moment for sure when Haley tells Nathan he's going to have a son and the two of them are beaming with so much pride and giddiness over the news.... you can't help but melt at their immense joy over their unborn son. And at that age, you wouldn't have the forthright to foresee that by him defying Danute's orders of not throwing the game...that it would end up putting Haley and their baby's life in peril. He just assumes that it's all going to fall back on him.... that's why he told Lucas he'll take whatever Daunte does to him.... never thinking for one minute that Haley and the baby could be at risk. And btw.... Haley pushing Nathan out of the way of the car that was meant for him...is epic. Talk about true love indeed.... but poor Haley......eeekk. Between Haley getting run down, Lucas going into cardiac arrest, Deb back in rehab, and Dan appearing to take the blame, you're right to question how much more can Nathan take, and what will become of him if the worst happens? We all know that Nathan will never forgive himself if something happens to Haley and/or the baby, so stay tuned!!!!

Yay finally Lucas and Peyton get together… but damn this how it has to end the episode. T

I agree that he should have told Haley. I love how Nathan takes responsibility but not that he simply takes responsibility but that he really learns from his mistakes. To compare to Lucas... Lucas is the type who will make the same mistake hundreds of times (like cheating on his girlfriends for instance). Nathan makes mistakes at times but it's all a part of his learning process and learning not to make the same mistakes over and over! Like you look back at who he used to be in S1 and it's truly amazing to see his internal growth.

Nathan is definitely still a WIP and doesn't always make the right choices. He did what he thought was best at the time, but he should have at least told Haley. I know he wanted to protect her, but it's her life too. She should have a say. He's led her to believe the money came from Dan. Together they could have found another way. Now her life and their baby's life are at risk because of his dumb decision. I hold no judgement towards Nathan. His mistake was not telling his wife because she could have steered him in the right direction (but then there would be no drama or a tv show, lol). He doesn't always look beyond the moment and at the bigger picture. That said, I love Nathan even with his mistakes because he always takes ownership and tries to do better the next time. This was one of my favorite Nathan storylines.

In my opinion this episode is the best episode of the series. We had four years of lead up to get to this point. It is so interesting that the reactors I've seen react to One Tree Hill try to predict what is going to happen with Nathan and Haley's baby I obviously won't give away what happens. For me though when I was watching the show in real time I didn't think Haley was going to lose the baby or give it up granted after this episode I was worried about what was going to happen with Haley and the baby but I was cautiously optimistic.

Yeah, that part in the beginning about them losing was actually the recording of a radio broadcast when the ravens lost 18 years ago when Dan was on the team. Whitey played it in the locker room at halftime

I've been waiting till this episode to talk about the whole Nathan/loan sharks of it all. I am very sympathetic to Nathan during this time and maybe it's partly because I've seen this episode. For one, Nathan was in a difficult situation financially. He had a pregnant wife who was having a full blown panic attack when their power was shut off. He went to his father for help even though it pained him to do so and he was coldly turned away by his piss poor excuse for a father. Even if he had gotten a job right then, that wouldn't have dug them out of the financial hole they were in for quite some time... and he didn't feel like he had time with a panicked wife and no lights/power in their home. So he made the decision he felt he needed to make to protect his family. Now hindsight is 20/20. Of course he shouldn't have gotten involved with them but the point is now he's involved. Every decision he made after getting involved I more or less support. The stakes are so much higher than just Nathan losing his scholarship or even Nathan and Haley being able to pay their bills. This isn't as simple as Lucas tries to make it sound. It's not as simple as Skills deserves a scholarship and Whitey deserves to win a championship. Haley's life is at stake. And honestly Nathan was scared for his family even before this episode. I don't think he imagined that it would go this far but he did see Daunte sniffin around the cafe and Daunte made veiled threats towards himself and his family. I enjoy them winning the championship on a visceral level but clearly winning it may not have been the best option. Haley and Lucas wouldn't be in the hospital after all. And I don't even fault Nathan for winning the game cause he had so many pressures going up against him. He had Lucas and Skills treating him like he was a selfish piece of shit. He had his father blaming him even though if Dan weren't an atrocious father then none of this would have happened. Nathan is kind of being thrown around emotionally and physically. He's a depressed possibly suicidal at times kid who is just trying the best he can to do what's right. He doesn't always make the right decisions but he always takes responsibility. I would like to see Mr high and mighty self righteous Lucas deal with even an ounce of what Nathan has to deal with.
