Outlander 1X12: Lallybroch
Added 2024-04-19 20:00:06 +0000 UTCI don't know why I was so thrown by beginning-of-the episode Jenny. I was so sure she was going to be like end-of-the-episode Jenny the whole time. But I was really adamant about it. Sorry!
Loved, loved, loved Jamie doing the flashbacks, as hard as they were to watch. But it was perfect for his character and really balanced out what Claire had divulged last episode.
Also, I love that Jamie is always so willing to listen to Claire's point of view. But he doesn't always just accept it. He actually thinks about it and decides if it helps or harms the situation at hand. Just like an equal partner.

I forgot about that vase. Good catch!

That I’d never lived in any place long enough to justify having such a simple thing and how at that moment I wanted nothing so much in all the world as to have a vase of my very own.” After a nomadic childhood (which we were reminded of in this episode) and an equally nomadic adult life as a combat nurse (which we were also reminded of in this episode), Claire desperately wanted a house and all it represented: stability, a place to be still, a place to set down a vase and let it collect dust. We got a callback to that vase in this episode. Claire gets a blue vase, from one of the tenants on Quarter Day. Her reaction to receiving the vase was very reflective. What Claire didn’t realize when she was dreaming about a house is that what she truly longed for was a home. Somewhere to belong. She found that home in Jamie. She belongs with him. Claire to Jamie, "I'm beginning to feel like I actually belong here." Jamie's response, "I know you belong here, with me." To me, this revelation was based on her reflection of the vase and is more about Jamie than Lallybroch (or Jenny). His home is her home. Soon after those words, they confess their love for each other, out loud, for the first time. 🥰 Like you, I also really loved the Jamie flashback scene where he talks Claire through his reasoning about his choice as he explained his feelings about his home, his father, and his abuse at the hands of Randall. Last week, Claire talked and Jamie listened. This week, Jamie talked and Claire listened. She even embraced him like he did her after he was finished. This scene was very reminiscent of the scene from the last episode. Yeah, I don't like being mad at Jamie either, but nobody is perfect. Not even Jamie Fraser. He truly is amazing, so it's hard to see him any other way, but he was definitely being an ass and totally deserved the reprimand he received from Jenny at the start of the episode and the one he got from Claire at the end. Btw, you don't need fanfiction just yet. This is their love story. Everything else is secondary. Lots more swoon-worthy moments to come. 🤗
