One Tree Hill 1X21: The Leaving Song

I'm mad at so many people after this episode. But, can you guess who I'm mad at most? If you guessed Dan, you win! (But let's be honest, he could have not even been in this episode and he would have won).

Also, I'm pissed at Lucas. I know he's a teenager,  and I need to cut him some more slack because of it, but come on! I guess it's good that Karen is letting him make his own mistakes, but this is definitely a mistake, right?

She's 16 in her first relationship. She let him talk. She just didn't like his answers. His porn stuff made sense, but his Peyton answer did suck.

I’ve always thought that the way Haley was reacting was completely ridiculous and I hate how she always gets mad and then starts walking away without giving him any chance to talk or explain herself

Lucas was always pissing me off lol. Nathan was definitely my favorite of the two by the end of the season.

I agree that Keith is overstepping but I don't think that Keith is upset that she lied to Lucas but that she lied to him. And that he accused his brother of lying when he really hadn't. Which I get and I think he had the right to be upset about that. Because that part did effect him and did have to do with him. But I still think that Keith is not quite getting it. And I do think some of Keith's lines are pushing the narrative that Dan may have been different if not for Karen's decision. Like how Karen asked if it would make him view his brother any differently and pretty much said it did. That's just not fair to Karen.

i love keith a lot but man watching this back he does overstep quite a lot. like i know he was there for them, but he's not lucas' parent and it feels like a lot of times he tries to put his voice and opinions on equal footing of a parent and it kind of makes me uncomfortable. karen is his mom. she should have the say and no one, especially keith should make her feel guilty for that. i get lucas having complicated feelings and emotions about the whole thing he's trying to navigate through but keith? sometimes i just look at him like "my guy, how does this affect you" but that's the joy of well done characters, even the good guys have their flaws and annoying moments at times lol

Totally agree. Karen did so much for everyone. And everything she did was because she believed it was for the best (and I agree that it was- would you want that asshole Dan hanging around your kid?) Also, as much as I like Keith, I do think he was a little out of line here. How exactly did it alter him at all if Karen chose not to take Dan up on his offer? Was Dan still not an asshole the entire rest of the time? Exactly. If Dan didn't like the situation he was in, all he needed to do was be a decent human being. 100% Team Karen.

i don't think that Lucas and Keith being mad at Karen is fair. I mean, it sucks to be lied to but I feel like the narrative that Lucas and Keith are pushing is that Dan not having joint custody of Lucas might have made him the person he is. I also think it's kind of a diss to Nathan and Deb. Like Lucas is such a prize that not having him forced him to abuse his other son Nathan and abuse his wife Deb. I don't know, maybe i'm overthinking it, but as Nathan's self proclaimed defense attorney, it just feels like a diss. Like Nathan is not enough, he needed Lucas to tame him and make him a good guy. That is just false and it's also not fair to Karen who was 18, pregnant, and scared and just trying to protect her son. It's so untrue as well. Like we saw that footage of Dan and Karen at that school dance in episode 4... Dan was always an insufferable douchebag. We also know that he tried to get Karen to have an abortion. Dan was no angel and there was a reason that she was scared of the idea of him having joint custody of Lucas. Nothing would have changed, the only difference is that Dan would have abused both Nathan and Lucas. And Karen had every right to do whatever she needed to, to protect Lucas and that includes lying to Keith and Lucas. Also if Dan truly wanted a role in Lucas' life, all he had to do was be a nice guy. Be a nice guy to Karen, to Lucas, to Keith , to Nathan and Deb and over time Karen would have come to trust him. But he chose to be an evil and abusive man so that's on him. Karen did not ruin this man because of that decision. Dan chose to be a horrible person before and after Lucas' birth.
