One Tree Hill 1X16: The First Cut is the Deepest

Fuck, Dan. That's my overarching feeling right now.

Also, I don't really have an issue with Lucas' actions here, but I'm concerned for his budding friendship with Jake.

I think she said "I do, I mean, I probably shoud have..." but she was speaking for Lucas => He should have known that she felt inferior

I actually think the writers were trying to say that Brooke was right and that Lucas was not all that great lol. (Well using her to point out that he's flawed.) He's a typical teenage guy. Definitely not someone to feel inferior to. He has looked like a complete jerk as of late, (using and cheating on Brooke, yelling at his mom, Keith and Haley) which is the point. They are trying to give him layers to develop his character. He's supposed to be messing up. Leaving the Rivercourt has changed his life and he's navigating that. New people. New influences. Nowhere for him to go but down. Keeping a character perfect with no room for growth, especially at this age would be boring and not believable. I'll accept him screwing up for now. Also, interestingly considering she's had minimal development, I think the writers do a better job at telling us how bad Lucas is for Brooke rather than vice versa. Lucas feeds (knowingly at that) into her insecurities from her parents of not being good enough. She needs to be someone's priority. She is not that to Lucas.

I agree. They haven't given Brooke so much so far but she's an amazing friend. Peyton even says in a past episode how when Brooke was much younger and Peyton's mother died, she went to her house every day to check up on her. Which shows so much compassion for a small child. And regardless of one's views on cheerleaders, she is the head of the squad which shows great leadership qualities. If anyone should feel inferior it should be Lucas who is a cheater, hypocritical, and pretentious.

oh no, really :/ i think this is also the fault of the writers and era, honestly. they were writing in a very early 2000s time period where "bimbos" and "flakey girls" were things to make fun of and be seen as less than, so a lot of brooke's story line thus far has felt flat because the own writers have felt her inferior. but looking at it in today's lens, she's just a very lonely girl who has her own strengths. she may not be into music and poetry like lucas and peyton. but she commands an entire cheerleading squad and is respected and responsible in that regard. to be on the squad, she must maintain her grades and work hard. she also has to take care of herself entirely on her own seeing as her parents just refuse to. none of these things, to me, make her seem less than at all. if anything we need to collectively buy lucas a "hi it's me i'm the problem" t-shirt lol he literally led her on and lied to her about it. i'm no fan of lucas's this storyline lol

When Brooke said to Lucas she felt inferior to him the whole time she was with him you said she should have. Just curious as to why you think Brooke should feel inferior to Lucas? I had to rewind to make sure I heard that correctly.

I have no problem with Deb cheating on Dan. I don't have an ounce of sympathy for Dan. But I do understand why Nathan is upset with Deb over this revelation. And the reason I empathize with Nathan is the line below...  Hard for you? Dad was a nightmare that summer, Mom. You know that. And all those nights I called you to tell you how he was you didn’t come home because you were with some guy. Don’t you see what you did? You gave me to him, Mom. You knew exactly how he was and you made me dad’s property. While Deb was off avoiding Dan and his abuse and toxicity, she left Nathan in the eye of the storm. The fact that he called her multiple times and knew the abuse he was going through is not something to be ignored. Dan took all his anger out on Nathan and Deb could have protected him from that. In general, we don't talk enough about how Deb was so absent from Nathan's life as he grew up. She used her work as an excuse to avoid Dan but that came to the detriment of Nathan and his life. She allowed Dan to wield too much influence on his personality and she allowed the abuse to happen for far too long. I am a strong believer that if you're in an abusive relationship that one should protect one self. But I am also a strong believer that if you have a child then you should protect them as well. As difficult as it was for Deb... Deb should imagine how difficult Dan's abuse was on Nathan. Nathan who was a child and defenseless and at Dan's mercy. Deb should have gotten both of them out of that house and divorced Dan's ass. Also Nathan is 16. His reaction as a child is completely understandable. I can't fault him for his feelings. Whether or not it's realistic that he emancipated himself. I just love that plot development. It's such a strong move. To be all like... Dan's using me as a pawn and Deb abandoned me so bye bitches!!!!
