The sword can be changed in the animation. I'll just have to remind the animator about it.

That would’ve opened up the door storywise to Ryoko noticing and bargaining for the gems. EDIT: I know, it’s just going off of the script that someone else wrote, but I’m still a little disappointed that my first waifu isn’t getting the kind of love others have. Oh well.
