JANUARY BTS VLOG

Happy New Year! Here's a behind the scenes look at our month of January at our studio.

Hey johnny, How are you? I’m Youssef Mobarak a Documentary Filmmaker. I’m in love with what you are doing. Thank you so much for this My Question is If I’m trying to gather a team or building one , what type of researcher is suitable for the content you are doing, is there a certain job title or certain place where I can find one. On linkedin I found lots of “reseachers” But I don’t know which researchers are suitable for this Second question, What type of tasks you give to them, I mean “researchers”. Are there reading big books and summarize it or they fact check or what? Because I found some researchers but they don’t have a background in the topic so I cannot give them a book to read it

That is a great idea! I'll see if we can figure out how to do that. The problem is that videos can take a really long time for an idea to go from the pitch stage to when we release them. I checked and our most recent video about AI warfare began production in June of last year. So trying to coordinate a comprehensive and coherent BTS video over the course of 8 months would turn into its own project that we'd have to manage, and I just don't know if we have the bandwidth! But we'll look into it for sure.

In terms of questions, it would be cool to see how an idea of a project goes from pitch to script. How much info is needed at the pitch level? How do you guys organize your quotes and sources to be used in the script? If you do interviews, at what point of the process does that happen?

Loved the Sam Folder & Sequence run throughs. And I've never done audio sub-mixes before! Feels like an "adjustment layer" but for audio production! I will totally be "doing my own research" (lol) on YouTube about that now. (Thanks for the heads-up on that technique!) And as for your "call for questions"... me personally, I feel like I've gotten quite a bit of the production process over the last year or so... THANK YOU EVER SO MUCH FOR THAT! 😁 But I'm left wondering what the possibility is of doing a little background profile on team peeps? I don't mean like a full detailed LinkedIn run-thru of every role in their career, but like, producer X or editor Y, went to school for this, and their first job was this, or they interned here and learned this, and eventually they worked at so-and-so, which built these skills, and then they met Iz at this whatever event, and was brought on to freelance on this project, and now has been full-time on the team for 2 years, and their role has gone through these changes. That sort of thing? Or is that a crazy request? (And I will confess to doing a certain amount of LinkedIn "sleuthing" from the regular video's end-credits, but it feels like it would be cool to get a clearer picture of how people find their way into the Newpress (etc) ecosystems? {and to be clear, I've also done some "sleuthing" around the MKBHD and Colin & Samir ecosystems too} so it's not just a hyper-focused Harris-n-Co cyber-stalking haha it's a generalized curiously around the developing ecosystems of serious YouTube channel creation and how people find their way in there? {my curiosity is mainly coming as a person who's career has pretty much strictly revolved around full-time roles in ad agency or marketing & communications teams}) Oh, and yes! Deep sea mining would be a good thing to know about! Been hearing more about that the last year or so, and it sounds very potentially sketchy. Been hearing from very sort of tech-bro-ey start-up types about it's potential... "Let's get all our rare earth metals from these blobs at the bottom of the ocean, they're just sitting there!" While there are new studies that are showing that these environments where the blobs are, are potentially generating a TON of the ocean's ability to clean the carbon from our air, and if these tech-bro/start-up bros start wrecking havoc on these environments, it could speed up global warming even worse than we're already seeing... 😬
