From the Story Producer:
When we first dug into Somali pirates, I told Johnny that I thought they kind of had a point — their environment and livelihoods were being destroyed and they were protecting themselves since they didn’t really have a central government to do it for them. But when we dug deeper, we realized it had been more complicated than we thought. So we reached out to experts and even a journalist who had been held captive by Somali pirates for almost three years, and they helped us uncover this story of how a few incidents of Somali fishermen robbing nearby boats turned into a multi-million dollar crime ring, and how that crime ring then fell.
