Sometimes I get to do stories where I talk to a lot of local people in the place I’m focusing on. I’m always struck with how powerful it is. So much more effective than just just reading and studying.
For today’s video I heard from almost 100 Russians about what life is like in their country right now. Mostly with regards to media and censorship. I learned a ton and I hope you do too!

2023-03-30 08:02:44 +0000 UTCJohnny, I think you've seriously distorted the issues going on in Russia for a Western audience: - your praise for Navalny without mentioning that he is a russian nationalist and neo-Nazi who compares muslims to cockroaches. - your continued use of maps showing Crimea as being a part of Russia. It's Ukrainian. - your insistence on framing this as a Putin issue. Putin is simply a symptom of the real issue: Russian Imperialism. If Navalny were to replace Putin, for example, the war would simply continue. I'd encourage you to engage more with people who have been oppressed by Russia rather than Russian liberals trying to whitewash the true situation.

If you get time to do another video in this area, I'd love to see something on Russian political prisoners (not just Navalny). Not sure how many there are currently, but probably 1000s. Ilya Yashin is a great guy to look up. Currently in prison for "spreading fakes", he writes great stuff from prison regularly on his Telegram channel. Hard to use when everything's in Russian though I guess :)
