Behind The Scenes: How The US Stole The Middle East

Hey friends! This is a recording I did of a map animation for one of the upcoming videos I am working on: How the US stole the middle east. I am breaking out some tricks I have up my sleeve to make things look advanced and beautiful (a lot of them do not even take up much time!) I hope you enjoy. I am very grateful for this group of you. Let me know what would be helpful in the future!

I've been watching more of the director commentaries from Johnny and am finding out a lot of answers to my questions. I'm still wondering what the usage rights are for using some of the footage that appears to be from films and other sources that I would guess aren't public domain / video blocks.

New supporter here! This was the first video I watched, and am super excited to go back through the archive and see the other ones. One of my biggest questions for Johnny is where he gets all the footage, and what the deal with usage rights are for using the video clips / images he uses - especially the old archival footage. Does anyone know if he's answered this question in another post/video? If so, can you point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance!

Long time fan! Seeing this exact shot in your published video was the tipping point for me becoming a patron today. I was so curious how you make them! Seeing your process is a real treat :) For the last couple of years I’ve been fascinated by map animations for data storytelling. In case it’s helpful to you I want to share a tool I’ve open sourced for this kind of thing! https://hubble.gl/showcase/ Now.. this isn’t really a plug. I think you’re set up has so many benefits over hubble, so I don’t really recommend it unless you want to bring in *lots* of data, or lots of 3D terrain into your map where AE starts getting hard to manage. This is the first time I’ve seen GeoLayers in AE and I don’t have a great way to integrate with it yet, but syncing camera keyframes and then exporting transparent PNGs from hubble could work? Something to explore. Thanks again for this!
