Well, this went from a few days work to over a month, and I'm struggling to see how it took so long.

This animation has given me a chance to work on some aspects of my animation workflow. Mostly fluids. It's hard to get around the fact that 90% of what I produce is adult in nature, and the juices are going to end up spread around liberally. I used to use the built-in fluid simulations in Blender, but they tended to give mixed results, until Sentharn (https://www.furaffinity.net/user/sentharn) suggested FLIPFluids.

Since using it, there's always been issues. The main one is that I do all my animations in the Eevee render engine to speed the process up. FLIP does not work in Eevee, so any time fluids happen, I have to do the full scene in Cycles. A frame that takes 20 seconds in eevee can take over 5 minutes in Cycles, so the only real option up until now has been to limit fluids.

That is until I worked out a new method of handling it that's on display in this animation!

Basically, I'll handle the animation and fluids as normal up until rendering. Then I hide the fluids and render the scene normally in Eevee. Once that's done, I open it up in Cycles, unhide the fluids and enable Holdout on everything else.

Holdout means it hides the object, but it's still in the scene, so if a fluid goes behind it, that fluid is obscured.

Take that image above for example. The black areas are transparent, and you can see where Roane is standing in the foreground and Efa in the center. The fluids still go behind them, but the camera can't see them. Each frame gets rendered in cycles in RGBA PNG, so it has a transparency channel.

What this means is you can then put the base video into the timeline and import the fluid image sequence. Set the blacks to transparency, and the fluid goes where it should be with the Eevee render showing where it needs to.

This saves a fuckload of time.

Anyway, the idea behind the whole thing was that it would be funny having Efa t-pose around the ship making everyone have explosive *personal incidents*, and let's face it, a small lizard doing an Akira around the ship is fun.
