[Episode Elnath] Progress Update XII

Greetings,

as all the last progress updates were a bit shorter I want to take the time today and talk about some more things and even have a few questions.

Scenes

I nearly finished another big scene. I'll probably finish it tomorrow. After this only a few smaller scenes and one big lewd scene. However, this scene will take a bit longer as the images for this scene need 2 or 3 times as long as in other scenes as the render-time increases the more skin is shown because of the SSS calculation (Subsurface scattering). And another fact is the animations. I'm not sure if octane will allow me this time to batch-render these animations or if I have to render them frame by frame again.

4K Render Reward Voting

I'll probably post the poll for the theme of the 4K render reward the coming week. I've 2 topics in mind but want to add a third option.

Selene and Stella

I had to correct a few lines in old dialogues. I used the wrong educational assignments for Stella and Selene, or was a bit careless by choosing the right vocabulary.  Selene is attending university and Stella is attending college before boarding. I always intended both to be fully adults when on the ship, I just messed up the vocabulary. Just want to clarify this, so there is no misconception.

Facial expressions and gestures

I don't watch tv or any celebrity related stuff, but a while ago a random youtube video appeared on my front page of a dude analyzing the body language of will smith and chris rock during the golden globes and how to interpret it (if the incident was staged or real). The most came to me as obvious or known but it reminded me to give this a little bit more attention and time while setting up poses. With some time I probably will watch some more of those videos to have those stuff in memory and include those 'mechanics' in my posing automatically. I hope this will help me sell emotions better.

Memes and references

I usually like to add a few memes or pop culture references here and there and I would like to keep it that way. I mostly try to place them where it doesn't interrupt the scene or breaks the flow of a scene. However, when writing and rendering the first episode I thought I would add more fun scenes than serious scenes like I do at the moment which lead a particular scene at the information desk when Selene slaps Elios (MC).

I just added this slap, the dialogue surrounding it and the later dialogues that reference this scene just for the lols, thinking it's an obvious and funny reference to the scene in Pulp Fiction. However, it appears I misjudged the significance / relevance of this scene as some people took that to serious. I think it is a fair point to get a bad view of her as this scene appears in the introduction of Selene as a character and sets trails of how the reader will take her character. People who don't know Pulp Fiction, or even if they know will probably get a impression of the character I never intended. Therefor I'll probably change this scene in the near future.

I would like to know what you think of this scene especially. Did you get the reference? Do you think it was too much? Did you get a bad impression of Selene because of this scene?

Comments

I didn't get the reference. Now that you mention Pulp Fiction, it's obvious, but it definitely didn't fit well with that scene. I generally find memes tiresome, so my opinion is likely affected by that :)

jufot

Personally it didn't bother me and I did get the reference.
