Which is unlikely to be the first occurrence of a shift in the region, the first metamorphosis recorded by Shift Inc. in North America was the transformation of Marta Anillos Gutierrez in Canada, Ontario, June 17 of 1967.

Marta was a secretary of the then known as Farmaceuticas Boticario, assisting Sonia Milch herself in bureaucratic matters. Young, witty, talented and, for her disgrace, ambitious, Marta accepted a bribe from a rival company to engage in corporate espionage.

She managed to steal a sample of an untested variant of reptilian hormones, a sample that would have been worth millions and turn upside down the market.

A few hours later, when the missing hormones were noticed, a retrieving team was quickly dispatched to Marta's parents house. Her parents informed the team that Marta had locked herself up in her room in which she was found fully nude.

The woman had accidentally inoculated herself with the sample and was already past the hormonal breaking point. She pleaded for help, but nothing could be done apart from recording and taking note of her metamorphosis.

With the team and her parents as witnesses Marta pleasurably and swiftly completely shifted from a female human into a pristine exemplar of female cobra from the naja genus.

The team took note of some of her last human words (minus the hissing), such as:

“Mommy, Daddy, I’m sorry! I’m so damn [redacted]!”

“How is it possible this [redacted] feels so [redacted] good?! I have never [redacted] so hard!”

“Please, please, don’t make [redacted] moccasins with my [redacted]!”

Once the changes finished the team retrieved the few remains of the sample, accompanied Marta’s dad to the hospital to help him with the small ictus he had suffered and answered Marta’s mother many questions.

It would have been easy for Shift Inc. (Farmaceuticas Boticario at the time) to just dismiss the case and leave the cobra on her own, but Victor Castelo decided otherwise.

Marta’s parents receive compensation for life and the cobra was found a proper house in the reptile area of the near Toronto zoo in which she would spend the rest of her life as the snake she had become.

The company made sure the cobra was treated well and, after the period of adaptation, seemed to adapt perfectly to her new existence, content with it because she could have got a much worse end.

The zoo renamed the cobra as Moma Samba and she became quite the attraction, using her human intelligence to perform tricks and shows for the visitors to the point that in the present day there’s a thin statue in her honor in the reptile area of the zoo.

Moma Samba (formerly the 24 year old secretary Marta Anillos Gutierrez) mate and lay eggs many times over her snake life, it was almost impossible to tell she had been once human apart from her wit and human life span, specially before Shift Inc. raised on global popularity.

Beyond that the messy incident was covered up satisfactorily (or as satisfactory as possible given the circumstance) for all the parties involved. Farmaceuticas Boticario learned valuable lessons: To tighten up their security and to establish the basis of what would in the future become the Takecare Insurance Policy.
