2025-05-06 17:43:49 +0000 UTCUmmmm. This is tricky to answer, because Strawberry's design changed and I didn’t even realize this issue. Strawberry has morphed from a merle herding dog to a kind of standard rough collie, meaning that she and Saint would realistically not create a double merle disabled offspring. But merle dogs (like Saint) are genetically prone to all manner of health issues, including deafness and blindness, so it's maybe not all that unrealistic that Saint's genes would, out of a litter of 5, produce a pup with a lack of pigment and hearing. Perhaps Strawberry had a merle parent and didn’t know her and Saint's genes could combine in harmful ways for their children. In any case, they were 2 undereducated horny young idiots living in the rural south, they weren't exactly thinking about genetic probability. In fact, their litter was not at ALL planned. Snowball took them very much by surprise, and they knew then and there that it was time to get serious about being responsible parents.
