Added 2025-01-11 22:19:58 +0000 UTCHoliday vacation is over and I’m back at the office, bleh. Even worked today, on a Saturday! >:/ But I also did a buttload of drawing over the week, so have a doodle dump!
1.) I was asked on my last post how Mal has such big all-natural bazongas, which prompted me to start playing around with her body type. Definitely still unlearning some hard-wired stuff about how to draw bodies (damn all those how to draw manga books in my formative years! jk) , particularly how I kinda default to “curvy” when I design my women and femmes. I originally figured Mal would’ve gained weight post escaping her parents and settling into a chill new life (with lots of weed and junk food), but now I’m thinking no way would Mal ever give up her sick shredded bod. Also, it makes more sense narratively….part of the reason Mal’s parents don’t support her transition is because they feel she “doesn’t do it very well”, ie. does not pass as a woman, or more accurately, does not fit their narrow idea of what a woman should be (delicate, thin, dainty, taking up very little space). Mal, meanwhile, feels that she’s a literal goddess that people should feel lucky to look at….but her normally unshakable self-image does sadly tend to falter whenever she interacts with her parents. Fortunately, she’s doing that a lot less these days.
2.) It’s Smooch-Yo-Man Saturday at the Toffee/Bob household! These two may be past the honeymoon phase, but they’re also officially in that comfy cozy stage of marriage where one doesn’t care about your spouse’s morning dog breath
3.-5.) Set a some time in the future, featuring Older!Honey. In which Topher learns that having a kid doesn’t necessarily mean you get a perfect mini-me that will mirror all your opinions and your contempt for corny country jams. Damn Honey and her corruptive influence! (jk, Toph’s mostly being dramatic. If he didn’t like Honey and her stupid ass influence he wouldn’t trust her to babysit~)
Honey and her niece/nephew/nibling are of course singing Take Me Home, Country Roads. Fun fact, Axel has a very shrieky-squeaky kid voice, something like Sweetie Belle and Squirt the Turtle (Finding Nemo) got mashed up together, so their singing with Honey is pure ear pain

I'm actually kinda glad you reduced Mal's bust size, cuz tbh with her gigantism having big boobs, without a proper (and expensive) bra that *actually* supports them, I feel like her back would've been in terrible pain. I speak from experience, when I hit puberty up until 2018 I was cursed with breasts that did not fit in my F-sized bra. My whole posture was completely screwed up to the point I was walking with my chest first, my back looked like this ) Then in 2018 I got a reduction and am now living my best braless life cuz my surgeon told me if bras feel weird on my scars then I don't have to wear a bra.

I've lived adjacent to the Catskills for most of my life and that somewhat includes Woodstock and the general hippie vibes of the Hudson Valley, and (tho I'm sidelining my gripes with the whole commodification aspect for this) I think Honey would get so much joy out of being one of those people (like some of my friends) who spend their time, especially in the summer, living out of a van and bathing in rivers and playing music with strangers. She makes me feel such a palpable yearning and love for the times I've spent with my friends, family, and strangers who have yet to become either sitting on a hill watching fireflies and listening to music. Honey could be such a Phoenicia girlie (or New Paltz bc. lol. New Pawltz), she reminds me of my friends and I'm stealing her for the Catskills we're going hiking and firefly watching you can't stop me >:/ (/lh)

2025-01-14 08:17:01 +0000 UTCIm not lop, but from what i recall, their previous answer as to what she thinks of trans people / would she be able to clock mal is that she is so incredibly ignorant of what real life trans people actually are like, that her pre-fed misconception abt trans women is a caricature of hulking men in dresses, desperate for attention /validation and confused / unaware as to how poorly they pass. that honey could sit in a bar full of drag queens and think ‘what a lovely bunch of ladies, theyre dressed so fancy they must be going somewhere special’. I think, even with mals new proportions, that her rock solid self confidence would leave no room for doubt in honeys mind. Mal believes shes a goddess and people are lucky to bask in her presence? Mal would say that she doesn't find much point in doing anything if she isn't in it to win, which means she WILL drag her amateur, sometimes frail and elderly teammates to victory, kicking and screaming if need be. She's also a sore loser and has no shortage of "constructive criticism" for her teammates whenever they underperform, which is, in Mal's eyes, all the goddamn time. Mal also coaches youth basketball but is currently on thin ice with the parents for remarks like "don't embarrass me out there today kids" and "timmy, this is why your mom and dad are getting divorced".

He (they?) totally killed it and looked gorgeous so I absolutely adore this new super fit Mal. She’s a queen and her body design looks soo cool. I love the detail about her hair. That’s something I’ve been noticing and first thought it was some kinda timeline hint. Nice to know it’s just Mal being Mal 24/7 ^_^

Axel is born tiny, and stays undersized (by leopard standards) for a loooong time, until sometime during puberty they suddenly explode in height and end up a tall and lanky adult, similar in proportion to Eleanor and Toffee. Adult Axel is bigger than Topher, but still much smaller than Mal.

Axel won't maliciously break rules just for fun (....usually), but they also tend to ignore rules they find stupid, such as "stay in your seat", and "stop talking". Some of the teachers and administrators have formed a very adversarial dynamic with Axel because they are a, uh...disobedient and somewhat obnoxious child. Axel meanwhile is not being properly challenged by the school curriculum, so they pour all their brainpower into mischief instead. They and their bestie Snickerdoodle are constantly getting up to shit like starting beyblade betting rings and forming a makeshift mafia to shake down neighborhood adults to buy their scout cookies (and getting into vicious turf wars with rival scout troops). When I was teaching I noticed the parents of troublesome kids often gave the school fake phone numbers so they couldn't be contacted when their children were throwing crayons or cussing during storytime. Mal and Topher would probably not be quite at that point, but they'd definitely have the school principal's number blocked

Mal is also probably somewhere on the aro spectrum, though she's unsure if that simply has to do with how her brain is wired, or if her rigid and love-starved upbringing negatively affected her ability to trust and love people. She loved Axel before they were even born though, so these days she leans towards the "probably aromatic" camp. Both Mal and Topher always thought that true romantic love was something made up by greeting card companies and romcoms. Both would react with confusion and discomfort if someone were to confess romantic feelings for them, both are notorious for keeping their relationships short-lived and shallow, thus to avoid any unpleasant mushiness. Mal and Topher also tried "making love" once, tenderly and lovingly like in the movies, and found it to be easily the WORST sex they'd ever had

So she often appears wearing long sleeves, long skirts, high necklines, etc while the rest of my characters are sluttin' it up. Waaay latter on, Honey realizes she does not give two shits about dressing sensibly to please the patriarchy and starts dressing for comfort instead. That means tube tops with no bra, big flowing skirts and pants, her lil pink midriff often exposed for the world to see. Her style is somewhere between 60s bra-burning feminist hippie and cottagecore lesbian except the lesbian is a gremlin that smokes weed and poops in the woods

When Axel is very young and impressionable, they watch the furry version of The Parent Trap and get BIG UPSET upon learning their own parents aren't married and living happily ever after like in the movie!! Mal's gentle explanation that "Mommy and Daddy are just friends, sweetpea" does NOT help. JUST friends??? Not in love like Uncle Toffee and Uncle Bob?? This is the WORST POSSIBLE THING!! AHHHHHH Mal and Topher have a reeeally hard time saying no to their precious little hellspawn, so they agree to get married if it'll stop Axel's tantrum. Just a quick little wedding in the backyard, they can get it over with before lunch, Axel's too young to know it's not real. Topher puts on his best tuxedo t-shirt, Mal wears a lace doily on her head as a wedding veil. Axel helps set up the lawn chairs for their teddy bear guests. Axel also INSISTS they invite all their family, and so Bob, Toffee, Honey, and Grandma Eleanor are all hastily invited over. Honey to be the confused flower girl, Toffee to officiate the ceremony, Bob to snicker at what's happening, and Ellie to BEAM at how red Topher's face is turning at all this. It's a nice wedding, all in all. Perfect weather. Toffee's opening speech is poetic and beautiful. Mal and Toph's wedding vows are considerably less so, but they're far less practiced at this than Toffee is, and also they only had like 5 minutes to come up with them. They're not gonna pretend to be in love for their kid's sake, but they still can hold hands and hesitantly say "I love you", because it makes Axel happy, and also it's true. They exchange the cheap plastic mood rings Ellie scavenged from her old costume jewelry, and Toffee (who is definitely not crying) says Topher may now kiss the bride. And he does. As the party winds down, with Axel asleep in Honey's lap and everybody eating the last of the last of the wedding cake and pleasantly buzzed off the wedding liquor, and Eleanor has danced playfully with her awkward and nervous "new daughter-in-law" and Bob and Toffee are sappily swaying to the last of the music, Topher remarks out loud that this is nice. Mal toasts her red solo cup against his and agrees, it's not so bad being "married", if only for pretend. This is when Toffee cheerfully reminds them that he is an ordained minister, and thus their marriage was official and legally binding. And all hell breaks loose. Jk. Toffee is only joking, but the couple moments Mal and Topher took him seriously DO prompt them to have a serious conversation later. Because the prank didn't incite in them the panic they might’ve normally felt at the idea of marriage. Instead, to both their surprise, they felt...relief. Happy, even! Topher always thought that marriage was a yuppie fantasy for normies, buuuut now he's wondering if there's actually something radical about two queerplatonic friends challenging the powers that be by appropriating the "sacred covenant" of marriage. Mal says ditto, it'd be pretty nifty to paradoxically reinscribe and destabilize hegemonic discourse in such a way, and also, they can fuck real nasty on their "honeymoon". She's musing about the additional tax and insurance benefits when Topher realizes that Mal would be his WIFE now, not just his roommate and baby-mama but his actual this-is-not-a-drill WIFE, and the thought is so metal he almost passes out. The next day they go to the courthouse and sign their marriage license. And they all lived exactly the same ever after~

In my older drawings, Mal's boobs are affected by gravity and do stuff like sagging when she leans forward, and splaying apart when she's laying on her back. Implants are not so...mobile, for lack of a better word.

Merry gave Honey a couple lessons on it when she was very young, but after that it mostly sat in her bedroom gathering dust. Sometime in the future, Honey confronts Merry and they have an awful fight that ends with Honey in tears and packing her bags, completely disillusioned with the man her father is. She doesn't know why, but she grabs the old banjo to take it with her, upsetting Merry. Honey objects, "You gave this to me!", but they end up in a tug of war over it, with Merry snarling terrible things at her, that she's a fool, a degenerate like her brothers, that he never would've invested so much time and care into her if he'd known she'd turn out so insubordinate and ungrateful, and Honey snaps, ripping the banjo out of Merry's grip, nearly yanking him off his feet. And Honey realizes, for the first time, that she is stronger than her father. When did that happen...? And more importantly, she realizes he doesn't hold any power over her anymore. That's why he's here, yipping and squabbling like a pup. He's just a miserable, frightened old man trying to bully her to stay under his heel, to stay here in this little girl's bedroom, forever his perfect, naive little girl. But her bedroom door is wide open now. Honey is afraid, but she takes Betsy, and her bags, and she steps through the door, leaving Merry there sputtering.

Anyway, I have to concede you have a point, I didn't realize so many of my younger characters are fit/lean/thin/etc. Dom, Oddball, Silver, Logan, Sunny kinda, Tibbs sorta...Mal, Summer, Shadow, Soup (not fit but thin), Priscilla. Penny has a lil flabby lemur gut but she's skinny otherwise, Cass, Katie, Brooke, Jupe, Victoria, Lune..hmm. Sure I've got chunky folk like Cupcake, Bruce, Bob, Tadeo, Jude, Gigi, Marnie, Snowball, etc but I could've sworn there were more! Like, I thought my DEFAULT character design was chubby. XD I don't think I have another young character that has Mal's exact old build (tall, curvy, a little chubby), so I see how you'd be sad to see it go! I'm sorry to hear it, I'll definitely try to aim for more body diversity as I draw and design my furry folk moving forward. :3

Most of the young characters we see regularly are very thin young and fit and I just saw a bit more of myself in Mal. But it’s not really that big of a deal. Sorry, didn’t mean to make it a Thing.

Axel is hyperactive and very distractible, so it's clear from early on that Axe is unlikely to turn into the Mal-clone music maestro Mal wanted, nor the tiny punk rockstar Topher wanted. Mal finds that she can't bear even the thought of subjecting Axel to the insane level of practice and punishment that made her so skilled, and Topher is definitely afraid of becoming Merry. So instead they drop their expectations, and Axel inadvertently becomes a vehicle for both of them to live out their childhoods again, but without the soul-crushing trauma this time. They let their child make their own decisions and have fun and be a kid. This definitely doesn't mean Topher and Mal are perfect parents, because they're VERY much not. They're too permissive, and sometimes their fear of inflicting their own traumas onto Axel can paralyze them from doing actual parenting. They're kinda like Bob and Linda Belcher, in that they're just kinda passively watching while Axel is getting into mischief and possibly committing actual crimes. Axel is a MENACE at school and Mal and Topher are very much Those Parents, the kind that think the mean fascist teacher is picking on their innocent baby. But! They love Axel a whole lot and model mostly positive behaviors, so Axel is bright, happy, creative, and more or less a good kid.
