Do Maple and Honey ever fix their relationship or is it doomed to perpetual estrangement? I guess the follow-up is what Maple's life is like after she and lover boy separate (if they do rather than Maple aggressively looking the other way as she's repeatedly cheated on). If horndog remains her sole support, I imagine she'd never make amends with Honey (let alone her childhood friend-now-son-in-law). If he leaves her (or vice versa), she might try going to them out of sheer desperation. No matter how much has changed, they are still sources of familiarity.

2024-12-19 01:57:42 +0000 UTCoh man, seeing Maple so happy with baby Honey both warms my heart and makes me really sad, knowing how stilted things are with them in the present day :( was it kind of similar to Merry growing apart from Toffee and Topher in that- they loved their kids when they were younger but didn't know how to reckon with them turning out different from their cookie-cutter vision of a perfect child in a healthy way? Or perhaps in Maple's case, a bit of terrified want to keep her baby close? She upended her life for Honey, after all.. Maple evokes such complicated emotions in me, man. She's a victim trapped in a repressive environment, but she's also. not a fantastic person, and in many ways fails to be a good parent to Honey (but then also she was probably ill-equipped to be a parent from the start) and just. all the emotions. What do things look like for her farther in the future? Like- whenever Merry dies, does she ever find some peace/get some distance from his influence/the church? Or does she sink deeper into whatever support network (such as it is)/degree of influence she might have gained by being his widow? Loving the sketches, also. baby Honey is INCREDIBLY cute, and Maple's face in the second panel made me wheeze.

Ridiculously tempted to spam upload them all at once! 😫 But I figure it's better to drip-feed them to y'all, particularly as I wanna build up a big buffer of art so I have stuff to post even when I'm too busy/tired/depressed/whatever to draw normally. My holiday break starts soon, so I'm hoping to make this a big month for drawing! :3

She only really knows what Merry (reluctantly) tells her, which is that Maple is his second wife, the woman he found love with again after his awful, money-grubbing first wife took off with half his assets and poisoned his children against him. Over time, Honey starts to feel that maybe her father is hiding something. She starts snooping, and eventually decides to reach out to her estranged older brothers, both out of pure nosiness and out of hope that she may find something in common with them (she's been feeling increasingly lonely within the church, her community, and even with her own parents...)

I’ll never forget when I showed the kids I was watching how to make hard boiled eggs and one of the kids bit into it when it was still piping hot 😭😭 I still feel bad. Don’t worry Maple, she won’t remember it! She’ll just feel a weird ominous aura around volleyballs now

2024-12-15 04:37:29 +0000 UTCMerry and Maple had sex once, in Merry's office- Maple regretted it immediately, and Merry would go on to regret it once Eleanor found out and his marriage imploded. In the aftermath, as Maple faced shame and scorn from nearly everyone in her circle, and Merry was spurned by his wife and children, the pair gravitated back toward each other. Partly out of loneliness, but also out of a prideful need to double down on their choice, to desperately prove to themselves and everyone else that they hadn't made an enormous mistake with the affair. Maple in particular is fresh off her vicious fight with Toffee and sees sleeping with Merry as a means of getting back at her former best friend (and simultaneously a subconscious means of indulging her lingering feelings for Toffee, since Merry is similar to him). Maple gets pregnant and wants to keep it, and since they're gonna be tied together forever by the baby anyway, Merry proposes. Partly to rub his attractive young new wife in Eleanor's face, and partly to start over with a new family since he screwed up with the first one. Maple agrees to be wed, feeling she doesn't have many other options, and hoping she can still carve out a happy ending for herself and her baby.

I tell a lot of extra story tidbits in my comment responses, which are scattered across multiple posts-it's kinda like my readers have to stay on top of my comments to get the full story! >< Like the rationale behind Merry's affair, Eleanor's character growth...all that was told via random comments, not art posts. Javahshsf. Your idea is a good one, I'll definitely do some further thinking on it!

When she was his office assistant, he was happy to learn he could talk sports with her (a topic nobody in his family cared much about), and from there they built a friendly rapport. Maple was bright, willing to listen to his opinions on draft picks and even playfully argue with him over them, and she was funny, in her chatty, anxious sorta way. Sometimes it seemed like she's hanging on his every word! She's just so young and unsure of her place in the world, so different from Eleanor's infuriating perpetual poise and overconfidence. Merry feels drawn to it, drawn to Maple. And when Maple gets her poor little heart broke by Toffee, Merry makes his move.

Also also just a small question but have you ever considered just posting note and idea dumps for fuzzbuts stuff without any art attached? Ik you always have a LOT of in depth stuff about your characters and lore and I enjoy reading it all. Also because Ik I personally find myself shifting through comment responses you have done for lore refreshers p often as well so it could be an easier way for folks to search stuff.
