The spikes on a cat's tongue act as a brush and distribute saliva evenly when grooming, but also (especially towards the back) for rasping bits of meat off things. Either way, it'd be really hard to draw smooches if the cast had their species' animal tongues. A lot of animal tongues are straight-up nightmares, but mostly they're often not flexible in all directions. I'm sure it's *someone's* thing, but "dogs licking each other in the mouth* aren't the smooching movements I think most humans find fun and sexy...

It's tough to draw so simply and loosely, with the focus purely on conveying an idea, rather than conveying an idea AND looking nice. Not sure if my past self was just hella confident in their drawing ability or just hella lazy, haha

I'm often kinda embarrassed by my old art (ack) but the dumps were so loose and silly, it's so obvious I enjoyed working on them. Otherwise Neith’s ladyfriends would be screaming in bed for the wrong reasons. Felines probably have tongues that are a bit rougher than the average critter's, but the backwards facing tongue spines meant to rasp meat off bone are kinda unnecessary in a civilized society.

I have a bug in my brain that tells me my stuff HAS to be polished and lined and colored, posting sketches feels a little lazy to me. But it also drives me nuts cuz I have literally HUNDREDS of sketches just sitting around, SO many characters and interactions and backstory and worldbuildy bits y'all haven't gotten to see because I'm an adult with a full-time job and that means I only really ever have time to polish and color like 1 out of every 15 sketches. Really gotta grit my teeth and start posting more sketches/sketch dumps, there's WAY too much stuff I'm sitting on that I'm dying for y'all to see and learn

She doesn't find a foothold in the music industry until the mid-80s, when public backlash against her (and Balthazar) accidentally sparks a massive interest in her by rebellious (and often queer) youth. Neith and Balthazar probably wouldn't have succeeded in any other genre but rock & roll, a category of music that has historically been rife with queerness. There were entire movements dedicated to banning Neith and Bal's music. Neith has been subject to quite a lot of public scorn, threats of violence (sometimes actual violence), and she's even been arrested a time or two. Neith and Bal were just too stubborn to quit, is all.

The Meadowsweets believe in the Master (basically god of old testament), a dominating and wrathful all-powerful creator. There is also the Savior, our furry Christ-figure who allegedly taught kindness and humility thousands of years ago before being brutally murdered and thus deified forever through martyrdom. Finally there is the Spark, a concept similar to the breath of life or the soul. It's the spark of consciousness placed inside every person, according to Honey's faith. It's usually represented as a diamond shape, and we can see both Toffee and Maple have worn necklaces featuring the Spark of life. Honey's faith is a mashup of Evangelism and Southern Baptism, with prosperity gospel thrown in for flavor

Towards middle age they were both working a lot, typical male/female orgasm gap, Merry being lazy in bed, etc. Eleanor wasn't sleeping with him often because it'd started to feel like a chore, which furthered his resentment and fueled his choice to sleep with Maple. At the risk of spoilers however, present day Eleanor is absolutely gonna hook up with Neith and think SWEET FURRY JESUS I FORGOT SEX COULD BE GOOD

Eleanor molded herself to be a good and godly woman, the authorative First Lady within Merry's church, and that meant she had to renounce some things about herself, like smoking reefer in her youth, her dreams of socialism, and uh, any and all attraction to the same sex. One kiss with another woman was only that- a kiss. Just a harmless stage stunt! Nothing like real homosexuality, which is of course perverse and unnatural, especially between two men. >:( Eleanor's treatment of Toffee is definitely hypocritical, but also she may have seen a bit of herself in Toffee, young and hopeful and queer, and it...frightened her. She perceived it as foolishness and weakness and attempted to stamp it out before it could spiral into anything truly damaging for her son's reputation (and immortal soul). She and Toffee both have expectations they MUST adhere to, Eleanor has worked TOO HARD to build this lavish life for herself where she is admired and respected, she will NOT have it compromised by her crybaby queer son! It's Merry's affair that causes Ellie to realize that her impression of all of them as a perfect godly family is merely that- an impression. Not real. She did everything right and Merry still cheated. Merry, her husband and worship leader, committed a cardinal sin. Now their marriage and home are forever broken, their children both in turmoil. Everything she thought she knew is a lie. She stubbornly tries to cling to her virtues, doubles down on everything, but it only pushes her further away from her children, and when Toffee finally breaks, Eleanor is forced to make a choice. Her son, or her virtues. The same virtues that have failed her again and again... Eleanor loved the power she held as first lady, the faith people put in her. But she loves her children more. When Topher comes out, she's again presented with a choice- adapt, or get left behind. So again, she chooses her son. She chooses to craft a new belief system for herself, rooted in love, kindness, and acceptance, rather than ego and power and finding the right out-groups to decry as degenerates. It takes her a long, loooong time to come to terms with her own queerness (Ellie is bisexual), but she'll get there. Eventually. All this is somewhat inspired by my own mom, who was outrageously homophobic/transphobic as I was growing up...but when I came out as queer, she admitted she'd experimented with girls in her youth. WTF, Ma. My mother is no longer queerphobic (and seems to be obsessed with a lesbian roller derby team on youtube), and while her years of bigoted beliefs were not okay, it seems she was merely parroting what she'd been told, and was waiting for someone in her own circle to be queer, to see that queerness doesn't come wearing devil horns and cloven hooves. Eleanor is a bit different, she benefited from her harmful environment too much to challenge it, and she did cause harm to both of her children. Certainly harmed other people with her beliefs as well. But she does the right thing eventually. When she sees exactly what her words are doing to her children, the sort of people they're becoming- bitter, angry, in pain... just like her. When she stands to lose Toffee forever. It's arguably a very selfish reason to change, but it is very human.

Eleanor was completely disgusted and shaken by Merry's envy-fueled betrayal, by the way he so callously acted to hurt her, their children, and even poor young Maple, a girl Eleanor watched grow up and had hoped would settle down with Toffee (note: this does not stop Ellie from being absolutely vicious to Maple and regarding her as a home-wrecker). Even when Merry expressed remorse and all but begged Eleanor not to leave, he'd broken Eleanor's trust (and faith in love) beyond repair.
