Eleanor grew up in more of an urban setting though, big cities in contrast to Merry's upbringing in a rural trailer park. She's more Georgia Belle, while Merry strikes me as an Arkansas or Alabama kinda guy. Both she and Merry have twangy southern drawls.

And besides, Topher and Mal had not told hospital staff to be on the lookout for Merry because 1.) They didn't expect him to just show up and 2.) They didn't know Merry even knew about the pregnancy, let alone the birth. And yet.... he did know about the pregnancy. And one day he's having a strained lunch with Toffee when Toffee gets a phone call and suddenly makes an excuse to leave, looking worried and excited all at the same time- it wasn't too hard for Merry to put two and two together from there.

2024-10-03 22:37:12 +0000 UTCAhhhhh I'm not sure. I think Merry does have a period where he gets a lot more intrusive trying to be part of his old family's lives again, especially after Axel is born. And I think Ellie is long past being violently angry at Merry and treats him with icy emotional distance instead. She doesn't need to blow up at him to get him to leave their grandbaby alone, she can just sit back and let him see how obviously his presence is unneeded and unwanted. (Mal tho is 100% in "new cat mom" mode and will eat Merry if she catches him anywhere near her newborn mewborn).

One of her hands is stroking Topher's, who is passed out snoring in his hospital bed. She kisses blind baby Axel's forehead, and for a moment he is struck by the beauty of this mundane moment, the way the afternoon sunlight washes over her weathered face (Dammit, how does she only get MORE beautiful with time?), her soft, short grey curls (When did she cut her hair...?), her thin hands holding both her babies so very lovingly (Why is it so easy for her?). It hits him that where she is where he is meant to be, where THEY are meant to be, together. Old and grey, welcoming the newest member of their family. Grandparents. God. They're grandparents. Merry: I- Eleanor: *looks up and freezes* Merry, flooded with a sudden sense of loneliness so profound it's painful: .....I'm gonna leave. Eleanor: That'd be best.

Is there really a thing as aging “badly”? Sure, there are consequences for lifestyles but there are somethings people can’t change or help and it’ll happen to everyone eventually. The best one can do it is take it in stride and be proud to have even gotten so far in life, as far as hair goes, I think.

I draw my characters wrinkly and gray and sagging and flabby because these are qualities that should be celebrated. I didn't make Merry bald as a joke or a punishment, he's just old! It'll happen to Toffee too! Maybe Topher also! Eleanor used to kiss his bald head because he was still handsome in her eyes! Eleanor is beautiful when she's young but she's beautiful old too! I love my wrinkly bald cocker spaniel man. <3 Eleanor aged just as Merry did, as she got older she found her once luscious locks were turning grey and frail, and the hair atop her head was starting to thin out. She could've kept dying it and having extensions installed to hide her patchy areas, but she gets tired of all the upkeep and eventually opts to shave it off and wear a wig. This said, I absolutely see her leaving her wig at home sometimes and simply rocking her low shave, or growing out a grey granny pixie cut.

Same case with young Merry, same case with Maple. Old lady Eleanor tho wears a wig that mimics the hair of her youth.

Listen to "Patience" off the Dreamgirls soundtrack, that low buttery smooth way Anika enters the duet and then hits that gorgeous soprano high note is 100% how I imagine Ellie's singing voice in my head :3

I feel women who wear wigs that dont 'need' it arent as appreciated or like theres some taboo, but Elli is so valid for just not wanting the hastle of caring for her hair and still wanting the freedom to style and self groom. Theres a lot of stress that comes with aging and feeling like youre losing control of your body / not what you want it to look like anymore, so i like that Ellie just fully owns it and looks stunning doing it. Also love that her wigs are also greying jksfnes thats right ellie, grey hairs are hot- i mean gorgeous ! It must be SO nice to have the luxury of long lucious lcoksbut also able to take off that weight every night

Eleanor was proud of her hair and loved wearing it in countless different styles, but decades of expensive and time-consuming hair care eventually started wearing on her nerves (a lot of things started wearing on her nerves once she hit menopause). Besides, her hair was starting to thin, and she was tired of dying it to hide the grey. So she buzzed it low and started wearing wigs instead.

2024-10-03 04:58:50 +0000 UTCI always love that little trick with the wigs, I remember when I was a little girl I would see all this movies with ladies and wigs and in my innocence I swear they were like Barbie, these ladies change their hair with the ✨magic of fabulousness ✨ And even know with all the exposure to drag queens&kings and performance, I don't know, it just so cool for me. I adore how your characters with darker furr use styles with bright colors, such beautiful combination, that's why I been insisting to my mom that she should use stronger colors, she's caramel skin and very feminine, but she swears that they look bad on her, thank that I explain to her that darker the canvas more pop the bright palette she started to use beautiful tones of reds and yellows that look SO good in her. I'm curious, you say that Ellie sings gospel right? What voice you think suits her? I have heard some gospels, wow those are powerful voices, I'm form Chile so this type of music isn't very know, so it was a pleasant surprise.
