Mini Comic: Fine Dining
Added 2024-07-21 22:36:38 +0000 UTCHaha, sorry for anybody who got the impression Bob and Toffee were a perfect wholesome domestic bliss kinda couple, cuz they actually squabble a looooot. They’re squabbly! But like, sitcom-style squabbly. Rarijack level squabbly. Where the stakes are always relatively low and feelings are rarely actually hurt, because Bob and Toff do genuinely love and respect one another. But Bob can be uncouth and obstinate, while Toffee can be fussy and particular and honestly almost as stubborn as his burly beaver man. So they butt heads, and they squabble. But even this has an element of affection to it, because Toffee has, throughout his life, rarely felt safe expressing his true wants and feelings. To be able to disagree, and even openly argue with Bob means Bob makes him feel very safe indeed.
Sometimes they end up compromising. Sometimes Bob gets his way. But most of the time, dear reader, Bob caves and gives Toffee whatever he wants, because he’s a big dumb simp for his tall twiggy dog man. One hit of puppy dog eyes is all it takes to shatter Bob’s resolve like glass. Toffee knows this, Bob knows this. It’s Toffee’s world, Bobby, dear. You just live in it~

But the only thing stopping him from snapping Merry's geriatric spine like a dry branch is Toffee requesting that he please not. Bob HATES Merry. And unlike how Tibbs treats Liv, Bob sees no reason to play polite with his shitty in-law. Merry is behind so many of Toffee's bad memories, he is the one that carved the deep black well of shame within Toffee that persists in some form, no matter how Bob, Topher, and Eleanor try to fill it with love. Toffee tries to be civil to his father and secretly still longs for his love and acceptance, but every time he extends Merry an olive branch, Merry all but spits in his face. A simple phone call from Merry is all it takes to leave Toffee quiet and withdrawn all day. Bob hates it. He would despise Merry even if Merry was kind to him, but Merry isn't. Merry isn't quite so foolish as to insult Bob directly to his face, but he also doesn't try very hard to mask his disgust and contempt for the man. Bob, in turn, doesn't bother hiding his own for Merry. Bob proooobably wouldn't beat up an old man, but he might daydream about doing something like say, "accidentally" knocking Merry's cane out from under him after the old man makes his billionth cutting remark about Toffee.

Toffee has a history of short-term relationships with absolutely terrible men, and Bob does kinda come off as a big grumpy asshole on first blush. Toffee is often drawn to men who mistreat him, so his family worried it was another case of that. But Toffee has also never brought someone home for them to meet, so they knew right off Bob had to be somebody special. And he is! Underneath that gruff macho exterior he's a big softie. Kind, sweet, thoughtful, and also really unashamedly proud to love on Toffee. Proud of Toffee's accomplishments, eager to hype him up, always listening to Toff's rambles, smiling like a dope at Toffee...yep, Bob won Eleanor and Topher over really quickly. And not just because he fixed Ellie's leaky sink the same day they met.

2024-07-21 23:26:00 +0000 UTCOh Toffee definitely tries, but in reality Bob could be bleeding out on the street and he'd still be griping at Toffee not to fuss over him. Bob gets embarrassed when people fuss over him, so he often hides if he's sick or sad. Toffee has to all but bully him into resting and eating soup and taking medicine, upon which Bob might make the TINIEST concession that it feels kinda nice to be fussed over. If Toffee's sick though? Complete opposite, Bob turns into a a panicky nursemaid aggressively waiting on Toffee hand and paw. Toffee swings between finding it annoying and soaking up the attention like the drama queen he is

I don't know if it had any hand in when you decided to keep this design, but when we gushed over our skrunkly king having a mustache and looking disheveled, and you said it was a one-off gag of him being too stressed to groom himself properly. Might I suggest he straightens his hair to avoid looking like Merry too much? Now that he’s more comfortable in his skin, he doesn’t feel the need to do it anymore, but his hair is so fried from flat ironing that he can’t bring back his natural curls. I also like the thought of them growing old together and bickering at the ass crack of Dawn

Honey, that's my parents 🤣 I'm not joking, I have see this scene many times, they are the introvert x extrovert ship. I wonder why people think that a good marriage must be perfectly wholesome and stuff to be considered good? In my opinion, good communication and compromise are the key. I mean my mom and dad are night and day, they argue about the petties stupid shit sometimes, yet 5 minutes later they are laughing and joking like kids again. I think this dog&beaver marriage is very realistic and cute and imperfect and I love it 🥰
