Make A Terrible Comic Day 2024

Tumblr has apparently decided that June 24th is annual Make A Terrible Comic Day, so I decided to dust this thing off. I had it sitting on the backburner because I felt the punchline was kinda ehh, but in the spirit of the holiday I must share it! >:O Before anyone asks, I’m not sure if this is canon. Probably just a one-off gag!

A lot of Honey’s general shittiness-as-a-person is intentional, but some of it comes from the fact she’s just kinda dumb. Dumb and sheltered. To her, “transgender person” = trans woman. Trans women are the ones centered in every discussion she’s ever heard on trans people, for example- her church claiming a bunch of drag queens organizing weekly children’s book read-aloud days at the local library was really a pack of wicked trans women hoping to ensnare poor innocent children into their wicked coven of L-G-B-Tees!! >:O It’s news to Honey that men can be trans. In case the comic isn’t clear, Honey assumes her brother is a cis man suddenly expressing a desire to transition into being a woman…..not what he actually is, a trans man. Who has been openly trans for about as long as she’s been alive.

Honey: Well, I’m not sure I quite understand your decision, Topher, but you’re still my family, and I’ve decided that nothing can ever change that, so…..if this is who you wanna be, I’ll call you my sister if it makes you happy. 😌 😇

Topher: …….

A combination of both. Merry all but severed his relationship with his sons when it became clear they were never going to be the children he wanted. He doesn't really talk about them to Honey except in passing. He refers to Topher as his son only because by the time Honey is old enough to understand, Topher is so far into his transition that Merry can't really misgender him anymore without sounding like he's going senile. He gets funny looks if he tries to call that scruffy, deep-voiced fellow his "daughter", so he doesn't. To be clear, he would absolutely misgender Topher in public if he felt he could get away with it, and he does go out of his way to misgender Topher when they're speaking together privately. Merry is a cruel man, but a very socially conscious one, so to the public (and to Honey), it's simpler for him to pretend he has two wayward sons, and has all along. Honey really had no idea Topher was trans, Merry did his best to keep her away from her brothers growing up, and kept all photos of his first family in a locked box.

This is so funny omfg Quick question. Does that mean her parents didn’t misgender topher growing up? (I know they’re estranged, but still) or rather just. Pretended he never existed ever.
