This picture really nails their relationship. One look at this, and we can understand their different approaches to life and their careers; how one is making staggering obtuse efforts of friendship to the other; and how the other is politely trying to keep her thoughts to herself, but will eventually boil over (understandably) and end up causing more hurt. And although some eventual color will be nice, even having Magnolia drawn more simply illustrates how she's trying to tune the whole conversation out.
