here's a wip comparing Cupcake to Pandora's dinky little unicorn form. Earth ponies are DENSE. They're the strongest ponies of all, and often the biggest. While Cheese Sandwich is a tall beanpole, and Pinkie is a diminutive chunk muffin, Cupcake is 100% rock pony brawn.

I can see earth ponies being much more grounded than Pegasi and unicorn. Like some have old habits from centuries ago, such as grooming, herding, sleeping standing up, natural milking etc etc, many love to stick to their roots
