Backgrounds poll!

It's been busy week for me but I still managed to draw few pictures. Above you can see one of them. Yeah, I didn't show you much but well, the rest of the picture might be too... how to put it... well, you know.
I'm gonna go ahead and run the first poll. My question is what do you think about backgrounds? For example in the picture above I've created very simple background. It took me few minutes. I probably could spent few hours on it and it would be only slightly better. Do you think I should put more effort on backgrounds or should I just focus on characters and leave dim backgrounds? Tell me what you think.

i would sugest no background - leave rpg maker as background. Those type of cg's are best - keeps the game immersion. Even if the scene is in a room for example - i very much appreciate cg's that are layered in the game.
