The updates will be delayed a few days.

I have suffered a catastrophic failure that I never believed could happen. My primary storage drive just up and stopped responding. No errors, no warning, no nothing. I have a background in computer IT so I started all the usual tests and the drive is their but windows can no longer read from it.

No problem, I have a backup drive for just such an occasion. This drive does a backup of all my documents every single night. I removed the bad drive, installed a temporary drive so I could continue working and then went to the backup to get my files. The backup partially loaded and then the drive started clicking and suddenly windows said I couldn't read from the drive that I had an IO error.

Now, my IT background calls this the click of doom. I am very familiar with it and I know this means the drive is gone gone. The click is the the arm inside the drive colliding with the central spindle because it is officially fubared.

So, I lost both my main drive and my backup drive within minutes of each other. That means I lost ALL my documents. Dozens of chapters, hundreds of documents about the various worlds, histories, and plots. Huge dumps of information and timelines about how the stories were supposed to advance and maybe 500 test and sample chapters. Oh and all my artwork.

But there is a ray of hope. If I can get a new drive in, I can use some data recovery software to try and clone the failing drive and potentially recover most or all of the files.

So I immediately ordered a new drive from amazon and ensured I had prime next day delivery. Well Amazon emailed me to tell me their had been a problem in shipping and it would be here in seven to ten days!

I feel cursed. Two critical hard drives fail together, and then the replacement drive magically can't get here for reasons.

Since I can't do this the way I want to, I am using some tools to attempt to read the failed drive and repair it, but that could take days before I know if it worked or not. It's doing a sector by sector sweep of the drive and running a whole host of fixes in an attempt to restart it. Assuming it does I will immediately copy my documents to another drive and then when the replacement comes start the process of rebuilding it all.

If it doesn't work.......

I am going to cry.
