Interview with The Forge

Hey everyone, long time no speak!

The last couple of years have been quite a chaotic mess, and I've sort of fallen off the face of the Earth, mostly because my life got inevitably changed and I spend most of my time now doing activism.

I do keep Beyond20 updated and made a few releases to R20Converter (I should have a new release for v13 compatibility soon!), as well as all the work I continue to do for The Forge, but I haven't posted anything on Patreon in a little while.

Recently, Jana (The Forge's community manager) interviewed me for the Forge's blog. It was a long interview that we did in 2 parts, and the interview has now been published on the blog!

I thought this was a good opportunity to say a little hello to my Patrons, and share the interview links with you, as you might find it interesting!

We discussed many subjects: my personal and career journeys, The Forge, Foundry VTT, module development, Beyond20, my open source contributions, TTRPGs, game mastering, the community as well touching on world events.

Part 2: https://blog.forge-vtt.com/stars-of-the-vtt-galaxy-28-kakaroto/

Enjoy the interviews, and let me know what you think (and I'll respond to follow up questions from my patrons too)!

Cheers!

Comments

How dare you tell me, the founder of the Forge, what is or isn't contrary to the nature of what The Forge is and does? I think you have not read the FAQ I published that answers the questions we've received, including the ones you commented about. I invite you to read the FAQ thoroughly and read/watch the links I shared throughout https://blog.forge-vtt.com/israel-sanctions-q-a/ If you care enough about this to have spent the time commenting here, then I hope you will take the time to do some more research on the subject. Shame on you though for saying that being outraged by a Holocaust is a "knee jerk reaction", and I sure hope that my decision will have social implications greater than whatever negative financial impact it will have on the Forge. If you think that there are "two sides to the conflict", or "tribalism" as you explained it, then clearly you have not a single idea on what is happening in Palestine and I invite you to educate yourself on the matter, because you sound like a Holocaust denier, or a Nazi apologist. There was no two sides to the Jewish Holocaust, the Nazis had no good reasons for their campaign of extermination, and there are no two sides to the Gaza Holocaust, and the Zionists have no good reasons for their campaign of extermination. I have not missed either, the death threat you've done, by literally saying that my actions will cause your Israeli friends to "take up arms" and potentially kill Palestinians as retribution for The Forge following international law? Shame on you again! This kind of comment is absolutely disgusting and I am glad that the kind of genocidal person who would say such a thing is not using my platform anymore. Seriously, educate yourself before speaking out, because the kind of comment you wrote will haunt you in the years to come when you realize the extent of the extermination campaign of the Zionist regime, and your complicity in the Gaza Holocaust.

Your activism is contrary to the entertainment nature of the product Forge sells. I had to switch to another hosting service because a majority of my players were outraged by it and refused to play under forge. I know instinctively I believe, that you will not shy from it because of one or even perhaps many such losses of subscription income there, and ultimately, here. You have a true belief driven by membership in a tribal group just as are my players. This sort of tribalism on any issue is what is being used to tear us apart by authoritarian rulers around the globe. Your action furthered that divisiveness and is the reason I no longer have a use for the Forge and your Patreon. Not that it will deter you, but the furthering of divisions by punishing members of another group who are not otherwise holding any political position makes them feel attacked and take up arms against what they perceive as a new threat that they previously did not see in that way. In short and in conclusion, your knee-jerk reaction has social implications greater than any financial impact it has on you or on the Forge, and I hope you think about that in the future. It is indeed a sad day when a game used to entertain becomes fodder for political activism. I will not be renewing my Patreon subscription at this time.
