Closing Out 2023

Hey everyone!

I've selected the questions for the 10th Anniversary Q&A video and answered the other questions as best as I'm able. I'm planning to release that alongside the next video, which I thought would be short but isn't really shaping up to be. As it stands, I am attempting to transition into shorter single-game videos in January, with just a couple more medium projects to close out the year.

On the slate:

'Playing Quake for the Story'-- a franchise retrospective trying to find any kind of narrative angle at all on the series.

'A Thorough Look at Diablo'-- Or, "How many clicks does it take to get to the center of my lizard brain?"

'Revisiting Doom Eternal for the Ancient Gods DLC'-- Exactly what it says on the box.

I'm trying to avoid promising a specific date for any of them, but I've got almost all the footage already recorded and the games already played, and I'm a few dozen pages into the Quake video script already.

HOWEVER! October is likely to be a bit of a dead zone. I've spent the last month doing a lot of work to get the videos close, but I have decided to use October mostly for the purpose of trying to finish off my novel. The whole first draft is complete. It needs tidying, but I am working with a real editor (who's excellent) and a real cover artist in the hopes that when it's done it feels like a professional book more than it does an amateur one. This is a hugely important project for me and I need to give it some time and attention.

So expect a Quake/Doom Eternal double feature in November along with the Patron Q&A, and then the Diablo retrospective in December.

I hope everyone's well. I'm trying to be more communicative about what I'm doing now that what I'm doing is more than "Fallout until my eyes bleed and then more Fallout". I'm actually in a pretty good place emotionally right now where I'm excited about what I have coming up.

Hi Noah,

Ben Murray

Nice! Thanks from OpenClassActions.com a loyal patreon supporter!

www.OpenClassActions.com

Just swinging by to reup my membership now that I'm in a good financial position to do so. Literally said out loud "Oh Noah you spoil us" when I saw the Shadow of the Erdtree video and reoriented my evening plans around listening. I won't say your From analysis videos are my favourite, it's too hard to pick when you have so many excellent ones, but I will say I've gone back and rewatched them many, many times and will continue to do so because they're absolutely fan-fucking-tastic.

Sasquatch

After seven years, on an off, of paying you for your work, I'm so glad the way it's taken. You are a unique voice in the space, and I appreciate it. Never change, Noah. Or do change. Whatever, man. Games ain't worth the hassle they give back.

Will Wargrave

Hey man just popped in to say I really loved the Diablo video. Never thought the franchise would be covered in this manner. A really really engrossing watch. Excited to the next projects whenever you're ready to announce them

resnet

Quake video was really amazing and surprisingly at a good time as I was replaying quake 1 at the time. I have since, been going back through your videos and really loving your commentary on many games! So thank you, looking forward to your new videos :)

Tristar

Very excited for Diablo, anything else in the pipeline for 2024? I cannot express how excited I'd be to have to tackle the Halo series campaigns, either just the Bungie Era games or the whole franchise. Thank you as always for making some of my favourite content on youtube.

Reuben Covington

Quake video rules! Can't wait for Diablo. Honestly haven't been excited by any piece of media that much in a while

resnet

Quake video owns

Jeffrey McIntyre

Mike Amarilio

Stoked for any of these, though the Diablo retrospective will probably be my fave. I also have to tell you that my friends and I watched "Hell Comes to Frogtown" because of your recent Fallout video and now I will never forgive you.

Kryshen

Super excited for the Diablo video.

Timothy Rebidue

hell yeah, thanks for the update! Take as long as you need to get shit finished. Remember to take breaks when you need. I'm doing alright personally--recently got new mood stabilizers that are doing FANTASTIC. I don't know why I'm telling a crowd of internet strangers this, but there you go.

BoogersBoogersBoogersBoogersBoogersBoogers

Outstanding, a novel sounds super-interesting. Keep us posted...! Love you man, keep up the good work. -Gantoris

Gantoris007

I'm so looking forward to the novel, Noah. I cannot wait to buy it and throw my support behind this creation <3.

SoldierHawk

Nice! I was just re-playing Diablo 1 a few days ago, that game has got MOOD

Bread Destroyer

Happy to hear about the novel, the rest of 2023 is going to be a banger. I'm also hoping the BG3 video is one of the first on the slate for 2024.

Cody Avery

HELL YEAH DUDE im so gld to hear you're feeling positive and excited that's great news!

Marie Taylor

Glad you are doing well Noah! Very excited for what you have in store next, but please take as much time as you feel you'll need!

Niko9lives

Noah I'm incredibly happy you are seemingly in a better place emotionally. I've watched you since grade school and now I'm 24 years old. You're my favorite youtuber and I'm so glad I can now financially support you. I cant talk for others but I never cared much about thr scarce releases of videos bc your vids give me so much to think about for months or years. Keep it up and I'm proud to be your supporter who gets to see/hear his name in the credits ❤

Ben Jackson

Looking forward to all of it. It's great to hear that you're feeling good!

Spirit of 70

These last view videos have been some of your best. Good luck on your novel!

Robert Bay

This is all pretty great stuff to hear. Glad you're doing well. That fallout video was an absolute banger. Convinced me to watch the original mad max movies.

Wash Manblast

Good luck on your book!!!!

thedailyfugle

It's awesome to finally see one of these have a positive tone. Good idea to not set any dates, I'm excited to see how the videos turn out. Very good to hear you say you're feeling good, I think that's very important.

Mojken

Thank you for the update. It brings me joy to hear you are well emotionally. I am looking forward to reading that novel.

Milan Vujinovic

Best of luck with the novel, and glad you're doing better! Looking forward to your new videos!

Eggrollbuddy

Nice! I think it's smart to know what's coming down the pipeline without assigning a strict deadline for any of it. Allows you to stay flexible, even swapping between projects if you start to burn out on one. Glad to hear the book's coming along well too!

Chase Carnevale

Glad to hear you’re in a good place! All the best Noah

Ben Murray

This all sounds fabulous but the thing I'm happiest about is that last sentence

Ian Buckley

Sounds great. Looking forward to the videos, and especially the book.

Martin Petersson

Some id classics and Diablo sounds like a great way to round out the year, looking forward to those!

Sawed Off Laser

All of these projects, the videos and the novel, have me so damn excited! Huge congrats on making such great progress on your first draft!

The7thDraconian

This post made me so happy, most of all to hear that you're in a good place! I'm excited for the quake story video whenever it's ready. Oh and also, a novel you say? FryShutUpAndTakeMyMoney.gif

Austin Cooper

Happy anniversay for you Noah :)

Echo Yin

Is by any chance God of War Ragnarok on your plans?

Alejandro Calzetta

Great update and great roadmap.

Alejandro Calzetta

I'm looking forward to your retrospective on Quake! I learned a little about it's development from Masters of Doom. I wonder how much that book was just one person's telling of the fallout between Carmack and Romero? Maybe newer information can shed new light?

Megabyte01

Thanks for the update! I look forward to your anniversary Q&A, as well as your other upcoming videos!

Megabyte01

Happy to hear you're doing well personally, looking forward to all of these videos

CJCW

I was just wondering what was coming next. Thanks for the update and good luck with all your projects!

GrantM

Thanks for the update! Hope your fall turns out great, and looking forward to everything coming out :)

Josh C

I’m excited to see what you think of the Ancient Gods. I had mixed feelings on it. On the one hand, some of the most intense combat encounters of the entire series. On the other hand……. what a weird story. And I thought the boss fights were kind of annoying

TheLargestDuck

Those projects sound pretty cool, but a book from you sounds REALLY interesting. Just judging by your videos, you’re an extremely thoughtful writer, I’m curious how that’s going to translate. Is there going to be a place where we can follow that? I know Twitter is a hell space, but I think it’d be cool to hear more about that

JHarts

A Quake retrospective sounds delightful! It's always been more of a vibe than a *story*, so I'm curious what you can draw out of taking the narrative seriously.

Tobasco da Gama

Super stoked to hear about your novel! always a highlight of my day to hear about whatever you have cooking :)

Ryan Young

Thank you for the update!

Max Golden

All of this sounds great! Looking forward to seeing what alchemy you pull with understanding Quake, and so glad you're feeling like you're in a better place with everything as well.

Brenton Buchanan

So glad to hear you're feeling more positive. Keep striving towards making your work sustainable!

Adam Bucceri

Sounds tight as hell!

Dragon Cobolt

I really love the Quake concept and I can't wait to see what you find. Maybe I'll even have to replay it! Thanks for the update, Noah! BTW, just finished my first-ever playthrough of Red Dead Redemption (including Undead Nightmare - I even got the unicorn) and I loved it. Looking forward to meeting Arthur Morgan soon... And it's all your fault.

Rich Stoehr

Very exciting to hear about the videos, the novel, and the emotional well-being.

Sam Sharpe

Awesome! Really enjoy getting an update like this, and hearing that you’re doing well. Hope October treats you great!

Ian Campbell

... you are trying to find the story of Quake. My noodle, Noah... be careful.

Edward Clayton Andrew

Thanks, as always Noah!
