Update on Where The Videos Have Been
Added 2021-07-31 04:20:20 +0000 UTCHey everyone,
I wanted to post a brief update on what I've been doing and what you've been contributing to. I've mentioned it on Twitter, but I'm doing a Resident Evil retrospective that ballooned considerably in scope while I was working on it. It's grown to an 18-game retrospective for which I've written 70,000 words so far and I'm still working on the section about Village. I wanted this to be done in less than 90 days (I was a fool to have ever thought 60 days was possible, and I apologize for sharing that delusion), but I'm still off by a few days.
So here's a breakdown of exactly where I'm at:
Writing: 17/18 Games Complete
Voice Recording: 14/18 Game Complete
Video Editing: 11/18 Games Complete
The average length of a game section is around twenty minutes, some go double length, a couple come in under that. It's the largest project I've ever attempted and I think it's actually coming along very, very well. I've been having some freakouts about it not being done already, but it's looking like over six hours of content at this point, and I think two hours of video per month paid is within tolerance for providing an adequate output.
The issue, I feel, is that these three months of work took me by surprise and I've fought against the idea it would take as long as it has, so I keep underbidding it on time. I want to clearly communicate that this hasn't been a lull in work so much as it's been a mountain of work that I have been picking my way to the top of for weeks on end. I am still planning to have a separate piece of content for August, but this was meant to be a 'summer blockbuster' kind of project and I accidently went so hard on it that the summer's nearly over.
This is the kind of situation the refunds are for-- if you feel like this is only worth one payment of the three it's cost you, I will refund the other two. Or if you feel like I've overpromised and underdelivered. The outcome I'm aiming for is, having already overpromised, all that's left is to overdeliver as well.
Hope everyone is well and thank you for your patience,
Noah
