April's Video

Some of you may be aware I've been working on a Far Cry retrospective-- I'm nearly done but it's the 30th and it isn't all the way done. It's turned out to be one of my biggest projects ever, around two hours of runtime and sixty pages of script and almost 300 hours of work so far.
But 99% done isn't *DONE* so I've left a lot of you high and dry again. It's frustrating to think that if this month had had 31 days it wouldn't be late, but it doesn't, and here we are. I wanted to make sure I explained the situation today so you still have to time to reduce or cancel your pledge if you feel you've been disappointed in the output.
I wanted this video to be the one that made it up to everyone for how poor a return on your investment you've gotten lately, and I'm deeply sorry that now it's simply one more example of that trend towards incompetency.
I want to thank everyone for their patience and kindness, and please know I only want to be kind to you in return. If you can hold out for another couple days for me to finish editing and upload it (a 12+ hour process in itself) I'd surely appreciate it. But if not, then please take this time to reduce or cancel. If you've received this message late refunds are also available.

Hello, Mr Gervais : no news for a while, neither here or through Twitter, so I hope everything alright and you're just swamped innew and interesting endeavours. (That's what you get for being nice on the internet : people may worry for you.) Since I'm here, let me tell you that I work in game design (video & tabletop) and I watch or rewatch your videos when I'm blue and want to feel passionate again about the work. So... thanks, I guess. :)

I have lost count of all the times I've "watched" all of your videos; typically just throw it in the background and listen. And I don't think any of us want that investment to become an extra pressure for you. I'm certainly not paying per video, I'm paying a small amount to acknowledge your ideas and thank you for your presence. You have signaled how challenging life has been for a while, and all I want to say is that I do hope your productions and craftsmanship bring you at least as much joy as they do for me and others. Please keep up the fantastic work when you are able and - if you can help make more tangible how assisting you through this system helps - or if we can buy more time or ease more pain, then I implore you to ask for the help and give us a call to action. I know there are many in this group of Patrons who want nothing more than to help you in some way, even though it is usually difficult for creators to convey that message in a way that to them does not seem greasy or cheap. At least speaking for myself...don’t overthink it with us. Please ask, and maybe even try to give us even 2-3 minutes on screen every once in while letting us know what’s up or how we can help in a given week or month or more. Wishing you all the best. But between your travelogues, deep thoughts on games that changed my life, and personal touch... you're my favorite. I love the fact you are pursuing what brings meaning and satisfaction to you, while occasionally sharing such intelligent and interesting analysis with all of us. Worry thoughts come to us all. I think that instead of beating yourself up, you should just change the conditions of what you're trying to deliver. I want to support YOU and make sure that you are making the content that YOU want to make. I think I speak for many people when I say I believe in your vision, and want to support you as a creator because of your voice and perspective. ROI and timelines never enter into the equation for me. You're doing great work.

As long as you're spending your time sincerely trying to produce quality content, and as long as we all get to enjoy your works of analysis as they reach completion, then to my mind you are satisfactorily holding up your end of the bargain with your patrons.

We're here because you make uniquely insightful and well-produced videos and nobody who matters is going to care about a day here and there. I, for one, would much rather you take the time you need and take care of yourself first. I really appreciate all the amazing work you do and how open you are to your fans.

You beat yourself up way too much over this. Your videos are extremely long and in depth. Many content creators settle for 15-30 minute videos a month. You blow that out of the water. So, as a supporter of yours since the Half-Life video, chill dude. You got this, I'm just happy you're able to make these videos.

In case I'm not done fast enough with my promised work (even if the work is better than asked for in the end, just like your 2+ hour Far Cry video is going to be), whatever that may be, I obviously hope that the other person understands. Since actions speak louder than words I doubled my pledge right now. Not forever: I'll probably go back to my original pledge in a while. However, just as it is important for you to be on time and deliver quality, it is important for me to deliver a token of support. Take your time! I'm looking forward to it! I appreciate your work. :)
